Hi Karlene, The following is what we know of John and Ann (Skuse] Adamson. Bob and Sherry Stancliff, Cincinnati, OH - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------ The first man of the name ADAMSON that we can identify as being one of our ancestors was John Adamson, a Quaker of NJ and PA. He was said to have been born in England and travelled to this land as a follower of William Penn.. (1) JOHN1 ADAMSON The first record of John Adamson is in the records of the Newton Monthly Meeting of Friends. Newton Meeting was located in, West Collingswood, Gloucester County, (now Camden County) New Jersey. JOHN ADAMSON and ANN SKUCE declared intention of marriage at the meeting in February 1715/16. The Newton Meeting became the Haddonfield Meeting in 1721, moving to a new Meeting house two or three miles away. May 31, 1726 John, Ann and four children took a certificate from the Haddonfield Meeting to the Gwynedd Meeting at Springfield, Bucks County PA. Ann was reported dead 7mo, 25, 1733 leaving a nursing infant (Simon). Conversion of that date to the Gregorian calendar puts the date at Oct. 6, 1733. John deeded his land to son Thomas in 1753 and probably lived with his son's family for the remainder of his years. John was a member of the Richland MM as early as 1692, having come from England to Quakertown, Bucks Co. PA 1691. Another source indicates that he came with his brother Basil in that year. It is reported that after the death of his wife, Ann, the folks in this Quaker community "The Swamp Friends" of the Gwynedd Monthly Meeting donated 40 shillings to provide John's nursing infant with a wetnurse. This child was Simon Adamson. CHILDREN:John Adamson and Ann Skuse/Skew 1.
