    3. I am looking at the 1880 Illinois Soundex. It shows in Richland Co., Claremont Twp. W. H. Adamson, 42, KY Ida, W, 32 IL L?/ela, D, 5, IL Birtha, D, 3, IL Maud, D, 1, IL I believe these are the persons who you inquired about. I don't have handy a County Map showing the Townships, but presume your folks were in same county in either Madison or Olney Township. h/h- James Adamson, 37, OH h/h- Moses Adamson, 42, IL In 1850 In Richland Co. IL Census h/h 1233/1238 I only find a Robert Adamson but I can't read his place of birth. Wife Margaret 26, KY. They have a 10 year old son named Wm. G. , IL. *** This may be the W. H. above and your William H. I really haven't gotten into Illinois doing Adamson research. I note the 1850 IL census has lots of families born in Tennessee and Kentucky. So anyone having ancestors from TN or KY had better check IL for lost cousins. I recall that Simon Jr had descendants from TN go to MO. Also Adamson's from OH, found in northern MO. They would almost had to come across the Illinois flatlands. I don't know if this information is relavent or not. Sure hope it helps someone.

    2. I am trying to figure out what family William H. Adamson belongs to. He is listed in Richland County IL (where the Adamson's that belong to my family were living). He was born 1838 in KY, and his parents also were born in KY, according to information I have. He married Ida Mae Beadle in 1874 in Richland Co. Any thoughts? Appears that he had 8 children. (Four of whom were Carrie, William R., Cora, and Maude). "My" Adamson family was also from KY and many settled in Edwards and Richland County IL, but do not have any idea where this William came from! Would appreciate any help in trying to find if there is a connection. Sue Adamson Fritz ----------------------- Headers --------------------------------

I have James Eagon and Mary Wood as the parents of Sarah Ann Eagon Adamson. You mentioned Richard Eagon? I would love to have your info. I have a lot of info on the families of Sarah Ann Adamson Rice, dau of Thomas Adamson Jr, and Sarah Eagon. I live in Thompson Falls, MT, but not for long. House is sold and we will be out by Apr 1st. I will be researching at the Denver library, federal archives, and LDS lib about a block from my dau's house. Any suggestions of what I could look for, books etc? I will be taking my computer with me. Since Jerry Adamson put that Adamson family into Rootsweb , Ihave been overcome by mail sometimes several times a day. The more I study the more stupd I become. You seem to have gained a lot more information since we last spoke. Maybe this thing from Rootsweb will bring some of them out of the closets. I hope so. Jerry has reallys stirred a lot of people up with this rootsweb thing. Take care. Hope all is well with you. Regards Rex

    1. [ADAMSON-L] Basil Adamson
    2. I have some clinkers to throw onto long established genealogy about the children of Basil Adamson, 1728 - 1785. >From the diary of Elizabeth Scholl which is in the Oregon Historical Society, Portland, OR: "Basil Adamson married Nancy Spires - my mother's parents" - Elizabeth Scholl "Names of Lucy Adamson Cowhick's brothers and sisters: Greenbury Adamson Elisha Adamson married Nancy Bell John Adamson Phebe Adamson married Basil West Nancy Adamson married John Boyd Amelia Adamson married Charles Galaat "Polly" Mary Adamson married Joshua Jacobs Elizabeth "Betsy" Adamson married George Borwell" Then her mother Lucy Adamson married Thomas Cowhick would be added to Basil's children also. But from "Prospectus Genealogy of the Adamson Family": In one place it says:"The Georgia branch of the family is descended from Basil Adamson, chiefly through one son, Greenberry Adamson. Basil Adamson's other children were John, Elisha, William, Washington, Frederick, Lloyd, Elizabeth, Keziah and Barbara. Greenberry was next to the youngest son. John, the oldest, served in the Revolutionary War." (This is list used in many DAR applications.) Then on another page: "The records show that in settlement of his (Basil's) estate the names of Elisha Adamson and Ann Boyd appear. Why no others are named is not known, but the inference is that he had previous to his death made some provisions for them." ****Ann Boyd is not shown on the Prospectus list of Basil's children, but is shown on the list from the diary!!!! (Ann is Nancy Ann Adamson) Can anyone solve this puzzle? Then to add to the confusion - the abstract of John Adamson's will, probated 17 Jan 1832: Wife: Sally Adamson Elizabeth O. Prather, wife of William Prather (daughter?) Grandchildren:William W. Beckwith, John A. Beckwith, Amelia Beckwith, Lucy Beckwith, Ann Beckwith, Henry Beckwith, Robert O. Beckwith, children of dec'd dau. KEZIA Beckwith - "Paradise", "Paradise Enlarged" and "Magruder's Hazard" Grandchildren: Elizabeth Ann Duley and Emily Duley, children of dec'd dau. Eleanor Duley Sons: John Adamson, Jr., Elisha Adamson, Hilleary S. W. Adamson, William Adamson Brother: Frederick Adamson Grandchildren: John S. Adamson, Sarah E. Adamson, Narcissa Adamson, Walter H. Adamson, Robert L. Adamson, Leonidas Adamson, children of dec'd son Lloyd Adamson Ex: John Adamson, Jr. Wit: Jesse Leach, Wy. Janes, Thomas Perry Might some of the children on the Prospectus list for Basil really be children of John, his son???? But then, John does name a brother Frederick!!! (Rex, thank you for making me out to be the expert on this family but as you can see I keep getting more and more confused!) I descend from Elisha Adamson, who married Nancy Beall, so I would be glad to answer questions about that family. Have quite a bit of information and family history. Have one other question I hope someone can solve though: Elisha Adamson, Jr., b. 1803, married 14 Feb 1828 Mary Ann Robinson, b. 1809 in Clarke Co., OH. Who were Mary Ann's parents???? Was on the Robinson rootsweb for a year and didn't find that answer there. Ann Lester alester172@aol.com

    2. Hi Betty. No, I don't have any proof either way on the John and Basil. I have only some information on John. but not complete. We There seems to be too schools of thought. Looking back from his marriage date it seems that he was a baby in 1691. According to one source babies were not counted when they immigrated so he probably was not a baby immigrant. The other source says he was Born in the States , I think New Jersey. Who knows. I surely don't. If you would like the source document references I would be glad to send them to you. My adamsons came through Thomas son of John, bucks and Greene co PA. and then my gfather, ggfather and gggfather ended up in Lincoln Kansas , That is where I was born/ My father was orphaned at 10 so he didn't remember his parents. His mother died when he was 5. I am 66 and retired, no sons so I am the last of that line. I live in Madison Al. What state are you located in , woud love to know. Thanks \ Rex Adamson Madison AL

    1. [ADAMSON-L] Richard H. Adamson, MD. & D.C. 1800's
    2. Hi, I am trying to determine who the ancestors were of my gggrandfather, Richard H. ADAMSON. He was born ca. 1827 in MD. (Montgomery Co., I believe). He married Mary Ann CROWN on 24 DEC 1848, in D.C. (she was born in D.C. but her ancestors originated in Charles Co., then Montgomery County, MD.). Richard and Mary Ann lived in Georgetown for a while where he had a business. He died in D.C. in 1872. Richard and Mary Ann ADAMSON had five children that I know of, all born in Washington, D.C.: 1. Irving, b. 1848 2. William Winford, b. 1850 3. Mary Emma, b. 1853, d. 1933 (married name, Sebastian) 4. Edward F., b. 1854,5 5. Richard Albert, b. 1860, d. 07 SEP 1923, D.C., my ggrandfather I believe Richard H. ADAMSON is a descendant of John Baldwin ADAMSON and/or Basil ADAMSON who settled in Frederick Co., (later became Montgomery Co., MD.) in 1720's and purchased land to be called "Adamson's Choice", but so far have been unable to prove it. I would greatly appreciate any information anyone might have on the above line. Thank you. Carolyn Thomas Travers jstravers@aol.com
