    3. Reference to a previous message; In searching for Albert's parents, I used the 1900 Missouri Soundex and determined that he was born in Ohio in June 1846. Then reviewing my 1850 Ohio Census extraction's, I can only find one Albert Adamson. And by luck he is four years old and the son of Robert and Julia Adamson, living in Hamilton Co., Cincinnati 4 th ward. Robert is listed as a cooper 40 years old born in PA. Julia listed as 22, from CT. I need help in identification of this Robert and Julia. Also need confirmation that no other Albert's in Ohio in 1850 census OR some more information on Albert (1846-1918) living in Newton Co. MO in 1900.. Looking forward, Is there a connection between the above Robert (1810- ) and to a Robert Adamson ,(1800-1810) who married 26 Nov. 1829 to Eliza Sheperd and enumarated in 1830 census in Adams Co. OH. IF SO, there is strong possiblity that we have a Connection to the Joseph Adamson that migrated to KY and OH from PA in 1794....(anybody researching OH and KY and other may have information on this). Thanks, jerry

    1. Re: [ADAMSON-L] Other spellings of ADAMSON?
    2. And we have a record of James Adamson's marriage to Lydia Roberds, where the name is not spelled three different ways, but listed three different ways. In the first instance, he is listed as James ADAMSON. In the next reference, (almost the next sentence), it says "the said James ADAMS". On the outside, the name was listed, and filed, as James ANDERSON. Evelyn Young

    2. Last night I came across a marriage record for an ADAMSON and it was spelled 2 different ways: EDMONDSON and EDMONSON. What other spellings have people come across when searching for ADAMSON?? I know that sometimes they may be listed as ADAMS, but I hadn't really considered other spellings. Thanks for any help! Sue Adamson Fritz Trinity400@aol.com

    1. [ADAMSON-L] Albert Adamson
    2. Thought I would be able to solve Jerry's mystery about Albert Adamson in MO, but when I checked, the Albert L. Adamson I have was born in 1874 IL....So no match. This Albert was son of James J. (b.1843 IL), who was son of Robert (b.1818 TN), who was son of William A. Adamson (b.@1790 NC).

    3. I came across this Adamson buried in a Cemetery in Missouri, just across the State line from where I used to live in Oklahoma and only about five miles from Kansas. I have exhausted my information sources in trying to determine his lineage. I have indications that he may have come out of Illinois. 1. Re: [ADAMSON-L] Can anybody Identify this Adamson
    2. This might be a clue, because of the geographical proximity. There is a cabin in Lawrence Co., MO (right next to Newton Co.) that is a restored dwelling of Edward J. and Elinor Adamson. It was built in 1845. It is not far from Mt. Vernon. I don't know where he fits in. The Lawrence Co. Historical Society, P.O. Box 406, Mt. Vernon, MO 65712 might have further information. The census has him born in TN ca 1824. His children were Sterling, Mary J., Cinthia L., Charles W., Lemeul J., Thomas J., John E.

    3. Jerry and All, My Adamson family after moving around awhile are found in Harrison County, Indiana. In a very small town of Laconia is a small grave yard where many Adamson names can be found. My mother is Anna Margaret Adamson, daughter of Harvey Arthur Adamson and Pearl Princess Pate. Harvey was a painter and died at an early age of lead poisioning. Pearl also died early from a heart attack. My mother married Ezra Thomas Cockerel in Jan 1946. My Adamson side is strongly associated with the Quakers. Many of the associated names are Arthur, Toler, Coyle. I can try to answer specific questions but the bulk of the information you seek is in the surname index on my website. Tom "Jerry F. Adamson" wrote: > Tom, > We appreciate the display of the Adamson Photographs. > Could you give us in this mail list connection between the Cockerel's > and the Adamson's. > > Am sure that everybody would appreiate.. > Jerry

    1. [ADAMSON-L] Another Adamson mystery
    2. I was sent this today-information is from Lawrence County IL: "The sketch in the 1996 history says that Mabel Claire Adamson Piper said she was born 24 April 1884 near Princeton, Gibson County, IN, a daughter of John Adamson and Margaret (Hodge) Adamson. It also says that if that's the case, she was born 3 years before their recorded marriage date in Knox County, IN (article doesn't state the date). It is speculated that Margaret Hodge Adamson was probably her stepmother, but the only mother she ever knew. Margaret died when Mabel was 8, her father John when she was 12. After her mother's death, she went to live with Mrs. Cindy Pinkstaff, and though she says her father died when she was 12, records searches show him remarrying in 1893 and again in 1900 for a 4th time. In the 1900 census Mabel was listed as a "servant" in an Applegate family household. Mabel md. James Cyrus Piper on 10 Aug 1910 and had six sons and one daughter (one son died in infancy). Was a member of Union Chapel Church and died 13 Apr 1956 in Olney Hospital, aged 71 years, 11 months, and 20 days." Can anyone enlighten me on what Adamson family this is? Sue

    2. I show a William James Adamson b. 1803, m. Cynthia Dragoo, Brown Co., OH. Could that be the same James that you mention? Could he be a son of the James who married Grace Austin in 1824?

    3. For those of you who understand the value of Census records, you will find this interesting. For those who enjoy solving a challenge, figure this one out. ALL records in reference to Brown Co. Ohio. Brown Co. Marriage, Census and Cemetery records show. C-18 ADAMSON, James to (Grace/Gracy) Austin 12 Feb 1824, by Thomas O'Dell, MG: Oath of Jonathan McMillen. 1830 Census- James Adamson as h/h Woods Cemetery, shows James Adamson b. 1803 died at 30 years old. (I have seen marker, its hard to read, but at time did not disagreement cemetery book) Brown Co. Burials Book, page 221-223, Woods Cemetery- James Adamson, born- 3-11-1803, Age 30-1-17 1840 Census-Gracy Adamson h/h 1850 Census-Gracy Adamson h/h 1860 Census-Gracy Adamson with son Quincy 1870 Census-Gracy Adamson and James Adamson ?????? withQuincy ( son and daughter). The census page is not that hard to read, is definitely says: James 69 M-W-Lives with Son & Daughter----------------------OHIO 1880 Census-Gracy Adamson with son Quincy. I have no other records of a James Adamson in this area with near dates. A researcher in Brown Co. tells me that although the some court house records were burned, that some probate records exist that indicate James died prior to 6 Nov. 1838. One of James daughter (and husband) sold her 1/5 share and stated it the land was left to her by her father. This land was sold in Sept 1845. I don't have copy but I do intend to acquire these records when I get opportunity. Would be Interested in three areas. 1- Does anyone have any other records that refer to James Adamson (1803-1833)??? 2.- Has anyone ever seen a mistake in census records (assuming that they are in error) of this magnitude? and how do you attribute to such a mistake? 3.- Speculation of other scenario that these facts could represent? Appreciate any and all comments. Please reply to list.

    1. [ADAMSON-L] ADAMSON/POE
    2. I don't think there is a connection to my ADAMSON's, but have been following the Adamson/Poe communications; I have found a Simon Adamson in Marion County IL who is listed in the 1850, 1860, 1870, and 1880 census there with a Mary POE. In the 1880 census it shows that Mary is a sister of Simon, and is widowed. Their parents were born in PA and VA. If anyone thinks this may be useful, let me know and I will send the census information that I have. Sue
