    1. [ADAMSON-L] Adamson, Joseph (1745-??)
    2. Bill Adamson
    3. By several sources, Joseph, b1745 is the oldest son of Thomas, b1717 who was the oldest son of John Adamson/Ann SKEW\SKUSE. Does anyone know details on his family, his travels, and his date of death and place of burial?

    2. Hi - I'm so glad there is someone else out there looking for info on Joseph. He left western PA around 1790 and somehow (Zane's Trace or the Ohio River) found his/their way to Limestone/Maysville/Old Washington KY. I'd better not cite any more off the top of my head. We'd both better hope Donna Adamson answers your query! Evelyn Young

    3. To Genny but really to all. This is an example where maybe only one record is not certain. It may take us five records to determine which is "one" is in error.. When I left the cemetery, I didn't have any questions, Matter of fact, I didn't have any questions until I read the 1870 Census. You can see the photos that I took last summer on my web site. Look in the group of Enlarged photos that are hard to read. . I have a dozen pictures that are of this family. Five of this James. Also more photos are in the Woods Cemetery, Brown Co. OH in the Photo Album. See my revised home page at: http://www.rectec.net/users/jadamson/

    1. Re: [ADAMSON-L] Mystery in Brown Co. Ohio
    2. Hi Jerry This past Thursday my husband asked me if there was a cemetery that I would like to visit. I answered that I would decide in a few minutes just which one I would most like to visit. I hurriedly decided on the Woods Cemetery. I was hoping to clear up the Mystery in Brown County, OH. As luck would have it the stone of James Adamson was broken. We left the cemetery with more questions than answers. Facts: Gracy and her son Quincy are on the same stone. James beside Thomas-looked like a much older stone. Another researcher (data in Adamson Folder in Gen. Soc.) stated the Cemetery Inscriptions Book data: 30y 1m 17d was in error and that it should be 80y 1m 17d. This was my theory also. In fact I actually thought I saw 80 on the tombstone. If that theory were in fact true, then Quincy, Gracy and James would have all died between 1881 and 1884. I will have check the death records book in the court house, this may provide the answers. If you have the census data already worked out I would appreciate having that info. As I recall you had James missing then showing up again in the 1880 census. Was that a state listing or Brown County listing? Hoping to resolve this soon. Genny

Bonnie Hunter, "My grandfathers name was Leo Adamson and his twin brothers name is Claud. They were born in Wayne County, Ky in the year 1873." and "He, Leo Adamson married my grandmother Mary Elizabeth Burton on July 4,1898 in Jamestown, Ky. They settled in Russell County, Ky on a farm". Using census records, I find: 1880- I find no record of either Leo or Claud. I looked in several states. I could have missed them somewhere. 1900- KY- Russell County.- I find Leo, age 27, b. Oct 1872, KY as h/h with wife Mary E. The next record includes Claud, age 27,b. Oct 1872, KY along with several brothers and sister living with their parents, Chesley, age 50, b. may 1850,IN and Helen, age 47, b.Sept. 1852, KY 1850-IN-Harrison Co.- I find a Chesney, age 1, b. IN with other siblings and his parents, William , age 40, b. TN , Farmer and Catharine, age 32, VA. 1840-IN- Harrison Co.- I find a William Adamson. 1860- IN- Harrison Co. I find:Individual: Adamson, Chisley, Age: 11 Year(s), Ethnicity: White Birthplace: Indiana, with siblings and parents, William and Catherine. Because of uniqueness of name Chesney/Chesley I continued looking for that name only. In the KARD - Adamson Ancestory Publication: I find, Chesney Adamson, :Volume 8, January 1986, Page 27, Submitted by Sue ACUFF. I looked in records of All 29 World Family Tree CD's. I find no Chesney or similiar. This is all I found in my 30 minutes of looking at my records, it should be a real good start in your search. 2. Jerry F. Adamson
    3. ******Posted for Bonnie Hunter <pandie@earthlink.net>****** My grandfathers name was Leo Adamson and his twin brothers name is Claud. They were born in Wayne County, Ky in the year 1873. This year is according to my grandparents marriage certificate. On my mothers birth certificate the age was different and his age according to this would make the year 1878. He, Leo Adamson married my grandmother Mary Elizabeth Burton on July 4,1898 in Jamestown, Ky. They settled in Russell County, Ky on a farm. I received a copy of the deed .He was a farmer and a carpenter. He and his twin brother traveled around to surrounding counties and tapped danced according to what I have heard. Leo Adamson died in Russell County in the year 1923 to the best of my knowledge. His twin brother did not live to long after that. On the marriage certificate it said his father, no name, was born in Indiana. I have not been able to make out the county. It looks like Hamon County, I can not find this name in Indiana.I looked on your census list for Indiana and could find nothing that looked like the writing on the certificate. His mother was from Wayne County, Ky no name given for her either. I have sent for birth and death certificates and have not heard anything as of yet. I was told the chances are slim for those years. Leo my grand father and his brother Claud are buried in Russell County and I have a 1961 picture of the cemetery , tombstones, and the church beside of it.The church was called Bethlehem Separate Baptist. I can not get any information, telephone numbers or anything else in order to obtain information.. I know my mothers cousin or second cousin who lived and died in Dayton Wyoming is also in our line , I am just not sure where he comes in at. He was from Columbia, Ky and went to Wyoming during the depression and settled there. He has no children. His wife is Ethel. I hope someone somewhere can connect with my Kentucky Adamsons. I will appreciate any help and information I can get. Thank You for your wonderful site for Adamsons! Bonnie Hunter<pandie@earthlink.net>

    3. To All members: >From List Manager: While checking facts and sources on the Adamson Family, I came across a reference to "The Adamson Family Records" "an unpublished work of Loren C. Barton" This is circa 1959-1961. I inquired about acquiring a copy of such and was pleasantly surprised with a nice booklet. A first cousin, once removed, of Mr. Barton; Larry A. Beach has scanned the orginial pages, made some minor corrections, and a few additions and has added an index. He has published this on his home computer and it is very nicely bound with a spiral binding. For you serious researchers you may want to acquire a copy for your reading enjoyment and research. It is a nice addition to anyone's research library. It has 32 pages of research plus the nine pages of ALL Surname Index. I estimate (I didn't count each) this to be about 650 individuals. The research covers the descendants of John Adamson and Ann______ . The focus is on the descendants of James Adamson(1757,PA-1837,OH) (s/o Thomas Sr.) and Hannah Heald. James migrated from Pennsylvania to Colombiana Co. Ohio. The booklet is organized by family groups with many dates. Larry has stated he can make more and would charge $5.00 (Five dollars) to cover cost of printing, covers, ink, and binding. He can be contacted at: "Larry A. Beach" <BANJOB@todays-tech.com>

    1. [ADAMSON-L] Ancestry: John and Mary Hammer] Adamson
    2. Bob and Sherry Stancliff
    3. April 1, 1999 To: Suzanne Head etal The ancestry of John and Mary [Hammer] Adamson is as follows: Good Hunting. Bob and Sherry Stancliff, VHSS55A@prodigy.com, Cincinnati, OH ---------------------------------------------------------------- GENERATION ONE One of the first men with the name ADAMSON in America was John Adamson, a Quaker of NJ and PA. He was said to have been born in England and traveled to this land as a follower of William Penn. (1) JOHN1 ADAMSON The first record of John Adamson is in the records of the Newton Monthly Meeting of Friends. Newton Meeting was located in, West Collingswood, Gloucester County, (now Camden County) New Jersey. JOHN ADAMSON and ANN SKUCE declared intention of marriage at the meeting in February 1715/16. The Newton Meeting became the Haddonfield Meeting in 1721, moving to a new Meeting house two or three miles away. May 31, 1726 John, Ann and four children took a certificate from the Haddonfield Meeting to the Gwynedd Meeting at Springfield, Bucks County PA. Ann was reported dead 7mo, 25, 1733 leaving a nursing infant (Simon). Conversion of that date to the Gregorian calendar puts the date at Oct. 6, 1733. John deeded his land to son Thomas in 1753 and probably lived with his son's family for the remainder of his years. The Compendium of American Genealogy indicates John was a member of the Richland MM as early as 1692, having come from England to Quakertown, Bucks Co. PA 1691. Another source indicates that he came with his brother Basil in that year. CHILDREN:John Adamson and Ann Skuse/Skew 2-1. THOMAS ADAMSON born Feb. 23, 1717/18 near Haddonfield, NJ., married MARY BURSON. 3-2. BETTY ADAMSON born Aug. 9, 1719 near Haddonfield, NJ 4-3. Charles was of the Gwynedd MM. The family lived Charlestown (now Schulkill) Chester County, PA 6-5. ANN ADAMSON born Nov. 25, 1828 in Springfield, Bucks Co. PA 7-6. SUSANNA ADAMSON born Nov. 1, 1730 in Springfield, Bucks Co. PA, married JOHN PARSONS + 8-7. SIMON ADAMSON born 1733 in Springfield, Bucks Co. PA, died 1810-1812 Jefferson Co. TN. PA 1733, died Jefferson County, TN between 1810 and 1812. Friends Records indicate that Simon married "out of unity" 2 mo, 1758 and left the county. He did not go directly to Tennessee at that time, but instead to North Carolina. We do not know the name of his first wife. He married 2. ELEANOR [____] LEWIS. There are several LARKIN families living in the NC areas where Adamsons are found, and considering the number of descendants bearing the name Larkin, perhaps that was the surname of Simon's wife. Simon was received into the Lost Creek MM at New Market, Jefferson County, TN in 1810. Lost Creek established 1797 from the New Garden, NC MM. Several of Simon's sons in area by that time. My husband, Elmore Hearst Salisbury II (1935-), is a direct descendant or grandson of Elmore Hearst Salisbury I & Viola Jane Berry. Elmore Hearst Salisbury II is my husband. My maiden name is Cooksey. I would appreciate the correction. All of the children of Elmore & Viola are all deceased.
