In answer to Jerry's question- Yes we are back from our trip to Pennsylvania. We had such a short time to spend in the Waynesburg area, only a few hours, but were able to visit 5 cemeteries, thanks to Betty Grove's excellent tour. I only hope that I can go back sometime when I will have more time, there is so much to see. Many of your pictures, Jerry, were of the stones that we saw. I appreciate being able to get them from the rootsweb. I did not see Thomas Sr's grave but did most of the other. Do you have information on John Adamson who was married to Ann Skew, I think. The dates should be in the 1600s or 1700s. They would be Thomas Sr parents. Where is he buried? Many thanks to Betty and Jim Grove for their hospility and help in finding my ancesters grave cites. Jerry, if a person was over 60 years of age he did not have to pay land taxes. Some tax collectors recorded the persons name if they were over 60 and noted in the tax book that the person was exempt from taxes but most tax collectors did not record people over 60 years of age. I want to tell everyone of some good Samaritan work. I want to publicly thank the following individuals for performing major restoration and future up keep of an Adamson Cemetery. It is the family Plot for Stephen Hatfield Adamson (1822-1891) and his wife and children. The size is only about 20 by 40 feet, and contains his family. It is called the Adamson Cemetery, but because of two Adamson Cemeteries in Greene County Pennsylvania, some researcher refer to it as [Adamson (Crouse School) Cemetery]. Its only about four miles west of Waynesburg and close to the Highway. First Thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Ross Adamson of California. Ross is a descendant of Stephen Hatfield Adamson . Ross arranged for some very heavy lifting and resetting of monuments. The Cemetery has been overgrown, not maintained and All monuments has fallen over. Secondly, I want to thank Jim and Betty Grove of Waynesburg PA. They have offered to take care of the cemetery in the future. Jim is also a descendant of Stephen Hatfield Adamson. Our Thanks to both families for job well done. You can see the photographs of this site on the AdamsonAncestry home page. http://www.rectec.net/users/jadamson/cemetery_menus/pagradamson-crouse.htm -- Jerry F. Thanks to the extreme heat and humidity, I have been working on getting new photos uploaded. I now have uploaded everything I have (I think). If you find any photos that won't display or a link that is not working, please notify me direct so I can correct. It is hard for me to check every possible combination. Many of the mapping programs for the newer cemeteries are not existing or in error. I will correct them later. This is a complete listing of cemeteries that I uploaded pictures too. Most are new cemeteries, but a few are either additional or replacement photos. I will ID each as NEW, ADD, and REP. Jerry, Saw the gravestones from Laconia, In. Thought you might be interested in the strory about the stone of Harvey Arthur Adamson. The stone in the rear, near the tree was the original stone. My cousin, Karen Adamson and I placed the "never dies" plants between the old stone and the new stone. The new stone was purchased by my sister, Deloris Ann Cockerel ( McGovern), in 1995. Last night I added some new categories to GEN CONNECT for the ADAMSON surname. Categories now include: Queries, Bibles, Bios, Deeds, Obits, Pensions, and Wills. I encourage you to submit information to these sites. GEN CONNECT will supplement our Mail List and provide a permanent storage of ADAMSON information. If you have difficulties in submitting information or am uncomfortable about typing (Use cut and Paste) for long documents, I would be glad to input it for you. You can send me the information as a message and I will post it or if you want mail me a copy via USPS and I will input it for you. I am definitely encourage Bios, Obits, and Wills. We should be able to accumulate a hundred or so very easily. This is your chance to share the information you have accumulated over the years, or the new find that you just located. I suggest that you Title each submittal with the Individual, Full Name, (year of birth-death) and State of residency. ie [Thomas Adamson Jr- (1758-1816), Greene Co. PA] Let me know if you have problems or need help Jerry
I thought this might be easier to update you on my recent trip to Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky and Pennsylvania by using the Mail List. . If it hadn't been for an Adamson Reunion in Pennsylvania, I would have gone six weeks sooner. The heat and humidity was high, so I shorten the trip, but still found lots of information that I will share. The cemetery tour In Greene Co. PA was most enjoyable to all who attended. You can meet the nicest people on these kind of outings. I met several new Adamson Cousins. Some have email and internet access and some even have an interest in their ancestry, so hopefully they will find their way to the ADAMSON-L mail list. I want to thank many of you for the tips on where to go and what to see. I wish I had more time, and I would have found more. I took over 350 digital Photographs on the trip. Many are duplicates and triplicates, but I will have many new photos to load up to the Photo Album on the AdamsonAncestry.com site. This will probably happen this coming winter. I acquired: Cemetery Photos at Old Union Cemetery in Lawrence Co. IN. Cemetery Photos at Laconia Memorial Baptist Cemetery in Harrison Co. IN. Cemetery Photos at Kirker Cemetery, Adams Co. OH. Cemetery Photos at Manchester IOOF Cemetery, Adams Co. OH. Additional Photos at Greene Co. Memorial Park in Greene Co. PA. Cemetery Photos at Greenmount Cemetery, Greene Co. PA. Cemetery Photos at Mt. Olivett Cemetery, Robertson Co. KY. A special Photograph of Grave Marker for William Adamson, probably son of William Adamson and Grandson of Joseph Adamson, (1745-). This stone was recently uncovered in a lost cemetery in Robertson Co., KY. A local historian is restoring the cemetery and found the stone buried under two inches of dirt. It is well preserved and readable. INSCRIPTION Is: WILLIAM ADAMSON, Born July 16, 1796, Died Jan 4, 1876. A great find. This William is the Ancestry of many Adamson's now living in Northern Kentucky. It is believed that this William was the younger brother of George Adamson (born Jan 16, 1791, Died July 25, 1879 and buried in Maysville Cemetery, Mason Co. Kentucky. Cemetery Photos at Cofindence Cemetery, Brown Co. OH. Additional Cemetery Photos at Shannon Cemetery, Mason Co. KY If the temperature had stayed under 95 degrees I would have had time to do some Library search. I did gather some important details and will share when I get them sorted out. Finally, A special Thanks to our distant cousin, Bob and Sherry Stancliff, for providing my Dog and I a place to spend a holiday weekend while my vehicle was being repaired. It wasn't as serious as I thought, but when traveling in Down Cincinnati, in Rush hour on Friday of a Holiday weekend when the vehicle quits on a crowded freeway, good friends are really appreciated. Hi to all the Adamson cousins. We had the pleasure of meeting Jerry Adamson this month and another cousin from Florida, Lillian Carmichaels. Let me tell you if you haven't met either one of these wonderful folks, your missing out. Jerry is the most nolegible person on the decendents of the Adamson's and he is a very warm and enjoyable person to be with. If you have a chance to meet him, make an effort to do so. Lillian is also a beautiful person to know. She is a very caring person and funto be with. I only regret that more of the Adamson cousins couldn't come to the Adamson-Hoge Reunion and to the cemetery tour that Jerry took us on. I just want to say to Jerry that we all appreciate the work you have done and keep up the good work. God Bless you and Tanner. Jim and Betty Grove
