There is an Adamson cemetary in Jasper County, Iowa, west of Newton, probably in section 17 of Buena Vista township. My gggrandfather, Abraham Adamson (b. 1790 in NC d. 1863) is said to be buried there with other Adamsons who lived in or near Adamson's Grove after 1846. I hope you have a great trip. Submitted by list Manager: Subject: Alexander Adamson Date: Fri, 10 Mar 2000 22:08:30 -0800 (PST) From: "Marnie Bernard" <marniea@micron.net> To: <ADAMSON-L@rootsweb.com> The Alexander Adamson in our family came Scotland in 1848 with his mother Agnes and brother Dougal. He had siblings named John, Betsy, Agnes, William, James, Elizabeth, Christina, Margaret, Robert, Jane, Andrew and Dougal. There were 13 in all. The mother Agnes Baird Adamson was born in 1778 in Baron Parish, Lanrickshire, Scotland. She married William Adamson, born in 1776. Agnes, Dougal and Alexander came to the U.S. (Alexander was 26 and Dougal was 24) on a ship named Carnatic. We have some excerpts from a journal Alexander kept on the ship. Dougal would have been my great-great grandfather. Not sure whatever happened to Alexander. They settled in the west. Marnie Adamson Bernard

Bob ~ I'll do some checking! I live in Lincoln NE and have access to the records at the Historical Society. Don't hold your breath, as it might be a while before I get down there, however. Evelyn Young
James was born about 1827 in Ohio; maybe Miami or Pickaway County. got married July 2, 1854 in Danville, Vermillion County, Illinois. He was found dead on a road on Oct.20,1898 in Springville, Keya Paha County in Nebraska, as reported by a Jusice of the Peace in McClenn, Nebraska. There are clues that he may have lived in Bassett, Rock County, Neb. or Pawnee Territory which could be Pawnee City in Pawnee County. ----- Original Message ----- From: <DEYCOMD@aol.com> To: <ADAMSON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, March 05, 2000 6:19 AM Subject: Re: [ADAMSON-L] The stone wall in front of some of the Adamson's Where in Nebraska did James Knight Adamson build/hit the brick wall? Where in Nebraska did James Knight Adamson build/hit the brick wall? Evelyn
Bob, Welcome to the world of genealogy. If the bug bites, you're hooked. Names are good. If you can provide dates (birth/marriage/death), counties and states would be great, because names seem to repeat themselves in families. Naming of children may be done to honor family members or famous people who are prominent at the time. The more information, the better. Good luck in research!!! ----- Original Message ----- From: Bob & Marion Adamson <merva@jps.net> To: <ADAMSON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, March 04, 2000 10:57 PM Subject: [ADAMSON-L] The stone wall in front of some of the Adamson's > . . I am a neophyte at this ancestry thing. I have a cousin who did a lot of research until she ran into a blank wall and now I am trying to crack the wall. I was born and raised in Missouri and stubborn enough to think that I can crack that stone wall. My two cousins, my brother and I are four that came from a Samuel James Adamson; and Diadem Gertrude Freel, who was one of ten children produced by James Knight Adamson; and Malinda Ann Williams, who was one of four children produced by Joseph Adamson; and Rachel Knight. Since James Knight was so prolific and produced a Joseph, a Solomon, an Abraham, a Charles, a Thomas, and our own Samuel James; who deserted his family in the 1920's and '30s; Those guys could have sired an army of Adamsons. Maybe you could be one his theirs. James Knight was born in Ohio, married in Illinois, and died in Nebraska and had kids born in Iowa but mostly in Nebraska. In regard to graves: There are graves in Hamburg, Iowa; Rockport, Missouri; Ridgeway, Missouri; and Mount Moriah, Missouri. Our "blank wall" is somewhere in Nebraska. If any of the sons of James ring any bells in your lineage I would sure appreciate more correspondence. Many Thanks from Bob.

Jerry ~ Don't forget the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, 5 miles south of Bern KS. It is on the Robert Miller farm. The first headstone to have been placed there was for Joseph Adamson, brother of John and Thomas (all sons of James Adamson and Lydia Roberds). Thomas and John each laid out a piece of their adjoining land for a cemetery, and their brother and his one year old son are there. The inscription on the headstone (mis)reads that little John was the son of Joseph and P.C. Adamson. Her name was Talitha (someone must not have spoken clearly, or someone heard wrong, as P and T can sound the same). Talitha Cordell Adamson died a year earlier (Dec 1854), as a result of John's birth, as the wagon train passed through Hannibal MO and she was buried at Palmyra MO. Dick and I were unable to locate a headstone, and as near as I can learn, there is no official record of her death. Joseph and Talitha had a daughter Esther born earlier, who survived the family. Evelyn
Hi Jerry I'm not sure where Muckingum Co. is in Ohio, but there are several Adamson's buried in Newton Twp. Muskington Co. Nathan Adamson d April 21, 1911 his wife died in January same year both were buried in Woodland Cemetery In checking the map in handybook for genealogist Muckington Co. Ohio is four counties from The Pa. border and green Co. Barb
Jerry, Elisha Adamson, b. 1765 Montgomery Co., MD, d. 1804 in Logan Springs, Clarke, OH. His son Elisha Adamson, Jr., b. 1803, Clarke Co., OH, d. 1879 Rockville, Parke Co., IN. Buried in Rockville Cemetery. His daughter Nancy Ann Adamson Stryker is also buried there with husband. A son, John Robinson Adamson, who died young is also buried there. His wife, Mary Ann Robinson Adamson, for some reason was buried in Brazil, IN. Another daughter Elizabeth Adamson Bogle is probably in the Brazil cemetery too. Another family of Adamsons lived in Brazil so you might have a lot of Adamsons there. If you go to that part of OH or IN you might check these places out. Elisha Adamson, Jr. was a builder and probably built some of the original covered bridges that Parke Co. is known for. He built the old courthouse at Newport, IN and Greencastle, IN. The farm he had on New Discovery Road passed to the Stryker family and stayed in the family until about 10 years ago. (Have quite a bit of history about him, if anyone is interested.) Ann Lester
Hi! Been a lurker and I finally can contribute a bit. My Uncle Forrest Adamson lives in Brazil, IN and I imagine a son or two may still live in the area. My Adamson line comes from the Greenup IL area. Alfred and Emily (Huddleston) Adamson. My father has a pretty extensive genealogy tracing of these Adamson's and goes back quite a ways. It was and is still of great interest to him and he has spent many years tracking down leads. I plan on seeing if he has a timeline of these Adamsons but know that he has more than just names and dates. I am planning my travels for this coming summer. I would like to get as many photographs of Adamson grave markers as possible along the way. My travel route will be from Joplin Missouri, to St Louis, to Southern Illinois (Richland County), Western Kentucky (Crittenden County), then to Northern Kentucky (Mason County) and Southern Ohio (Brown and Adams Counties) , then to Southwestern Pennsylvania (Greene County.). My return trip to Joplin is open at this time. You could help, by providing me a list of Cemeteries along this route, that would have Adamson burials. If you can provide the cemetery name , county and nearest town, and the names of anyone you know that is buried there. I intend to put the pictures on the Web page. I sure would appreciate any information you can provide. Thanks in advance........jerry -- Jerry F. Adamson; P.O.
