Remote chance that Joseph was the son of William Faggert Adams and Sara J Maddy, both of Ireland. They had 5 children, born in NY about the right time (Joseph listed as about 1847) but only the 5th child (William Mooney Adams) has any further documentation that I can find. He was born in Rochester, NY A Charles R.
