Hi, Sue - Your James is of an age to be a sibling of my Hugh. Did James come directly from Ireland himself? Some of Hugh Adams' in-law family, the Coopers, were apparently residing in Wheeling around the beginning of the Civil War, and they are rumored to have come from Washington Co. Pa., so there are definite similarities. I am only speculating that the Coopers and Adamses came from PA together but many families did move together then. The Adams family story is that they originally came from Wales, but I have no more information on that. We might see if there are other common names, dates, places, and perhaps I can look in some additional places for my Adamses and Coopers. The Coopers also married into the Way family and many of them were in Tyler and Pleasants Co. WV. When my Adams and Coopers were in Tyler Co. they lived in/near Sistersville which is just across the river from Monroe County. It certainly could be a possibility. It would be great to be able to tie some of these people to someone else! Let me know if I can give you any other details and I'd be happy to know what else you may have.
