Here's a little rundown of my own Adams family history. You'll note, it gets a bit confusing to follow. I wish I could have attended some of the family reunions back when. If they all compared notes, I think they might be a bit surprised to find out just how related they all were! Stephen Wilkes Richardson, 1813-1890, Franklin, Norfolk Co, MA is my 3rd great grandfather. He married 3 times. His first wife was Eliza Bullard, daughter of Amos Bullard and Abigail Adams. Abigail was born 18 Oct 1787 in West Medway, MA, married 1806. Stephen's 3rd wife was Mary Bullard, the sister of Eliza. The children were all born to Eliza and Stephen. Abigail Adams maternal great grandfather was Daniel Adams, 1685/86 - 1772, in Medway, MA, and he was married to Sarah Sanford. Abigail Adams paternal great grandfather was Obidiah Adams, 1689-1765, in Medway. Obidiah was the younger brother of Daniel Adams. He married Christiana Sanford, Sarah Sanford's older sister. So, for Abigail, her great grandfather's were brothers, her great grandmothers were sisters, and somehow or other, I think she may have been her own cousin! They all date back to John Adams (1657-1751) and Deborah Partridge (1662-1750/51) who were married in 1681 in Milford, MA. Daniel and Obidiah were two of 6 sons of John and Deborah. Both the Partridge family, and the Adams family were from England. (I wonder if I should mention, there have been TV shows known as the Partridge Family and the Addams Family?!) John Adams is a 1st cousin, 3 times removed, to President John Quincy Adams, with Henry Adams and Edith Squire as their common ancestors. The rest of the Richardson line is somewhat similar. More than a few of them had parents or grandparents who were related in their own right, outside of the marriages themselves. Oops, almost forgot. There is a Ruth Adams, who married Thomas Bacon in 1796 in Medway. Ruth is the grand-daughter of Daniel Adams and Sarah Sanford, which makes her Abigail Adams 1st cousin, once removed. Ruth is also my 4th great grandmother, (as is Abigail) through the Bacon and Allen family. She and Abigail skipped a few generations of common Richardson descendants, but they are both related to my great grandfather, William Stephen Richardson, of Franklin, MA. Stephen Wilkes Richardson was his paternal grandfather. Phew! If you followed all that, congratulations! If you'd like to 'poke around' these Adams and Richardson's, try Rootsweb. My database title is gar3131. You'll find many duplicate names (4 Ruth Adams and 12 Abigail Adams, for instance) so the dates will help you sort them out. Gary Allen Richardson
