Bob Adams was born on April 25, 1920, the son of John Adams and Ruth Garvey. Bob graduated from Willsboro Central School with a NYS Regents Diploma, He proudly served his country as a sergeant with the China Service Command in the U.S. Army on the Pacific front during World War II. As a member of an elite horse cavalry, he served on the famed Burma Trail, as well as in India and French Indochina and was part of the small group who aided the escape of Chiang Kai-Shek from China to Formosa. In addition to the Asiatic - Pacific Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and a World War Two Victory Medal, he was the recipient of a Foreign Service Citation from the Formosan government. Bob was co-owner and operator of his own gas station and repair garage in Sheridan, N.Y., and was employed for many years at the Plattsburgh Air Force Base, serving as a trainer and heavy equipment mechanic. He taught electrical repair at Clinton Community College. Additionally, he was elected for two terms as Tax Assessor of Willsboro. In 1946, he married Florence Lucille Walawender of Dunkirk, N.Y.; Their marriage lasted 43 years until her death in 1989. He was a devoted husband and remained so for the remainder of his life. He will be missed by three daughters and their husbands, Michael and Roberta Radloff of Saranac Lake, Ronald and Barbara Jackson of Essex and Tom and Marguerite Leonard of Willsboro; and a son, Robert C. Adams Jr., of Coos Bay, Ore.; six grandchildren, Susan Wallace., Justin Jackson, Craig Jackson, William Radloff and Kaitlyn and Thomas Leonard, and four great-grandchildren, Warren and Benjamin Jackson and Alyson and Asher Wallace. Bob is also survived by a sister, Phebe Begly of Willsboro; a brother, Donald Adams of Southport, N.C., and a sister-in-law, Adeline Adams of Gansevoort, N.Y. He was predeceased by two brothers, William Adams and John Adams. Calling hours will be on Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2002, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Huestis Funeral Home in Willsboro. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002 at 11 a.m. at St. Philip of Jesus Church in Willsboro. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Willsboro. Donations in Robert Adams’s memory may be made to the Willsboro Veterans’ Memorial Restoration Fund through the family or in care of Michael Lindsay of the American Legion in Willsboro, N.Y.
