I see you are also researching the surname Thomas and Cummins! I am too. My ancestors were in NW Missouri 1837- in Ray, Dekalb, Buchanan, Cos in Missouri. Would love to compare notes with you, as our earliest known ancestor, James was born in around 1800 in TN, and his children were born in NC from 1825-1836, and the later children born in Ray Co MO.
