My father, Anthony Hadley Adams was born in Charleston, Kanawha, West Virginia in 1934 according to the birth certificate that I have on file. Listed on the birth certificate is his mother,Janice Thompson and father, Leslie Virgil Adams. According to census records, I have a match (Willis McGuffie Adams & Mary Adams, Fayette, West Virginia) on the same family ancestors as Linda (Adams) Barnes. I was hoping that someone would know how I could contact Linda Barnes to exchange information or perhaps if anyone else within the community has additional info on Leslie Virgil Adams of Charleston, WV. If Linda is correct my father may have had a sister or half sister from another marriage. I just recently started researching my fathers family tree and appreciate any help provided. I also appreciate the web site you provided and will use it for additional research. Hope all is going well for you and your family. I too was told the same story growing up. As well as President Wilson. One would think the stories coming from your grandma would be true considering HER grandmother was an Adams....... and her grandfather was a Wilson. Unfortunately no connection to either president has been found. My Adams came from Ireland to S.C. in 1834...... thats WAY far removed from the presidents coming here in early 1700's in New England area.... from England. If your relationship is there........ it will find YOU. Just keep working backwards and you'll find it. You can't force a square peg into a round hole. So trying to work from them down will be impossible because you'll never figure out which line went where. Many people named their children after presidents and other famous people. Abigail was a very popular name. Always work backwards from what you know. It will lead you ! to your answers..... whether they are the answers you seek or not, they will be true answers. I am trying to connect my WASHINGTON ADAMS with his proper parents and ancestors. I understand that he descends from the John Adams and J.Q Adams. My WASHINGTON ADAMS was born in 1811 in OH. He moved to Lagrance county IN where in 1832 he married Laura Hill. She was the daughter of Dr. Moses J Hill and his wife Betsey Winslow. We think that Washington was the son of John Adams and his wife (?) who migrated from the NE to Ohio and then moved to Lagrange county IN before 1840 census. I would welcome any help on establishing the proper parentage of my Washington Adams. Thank you! I also have a copy of Julia Adams and Joe Colmer's marriage lic. that proves what you say about her age. In answer to your questions: 1. I haven't found Raffele Adams gravesite. I have been looking in as many cemeteries as possible in Lafayette Co. to no avail. I do have info that Raffele & Venus were living in Hadley, Lafayette Co., Arkansas in a 1910 Census and later I know Venus was pregnant with Addie Adams (when Raffele was killed), who was born in 1912, supposedly in Bradley Ar., so I searched cemeteries there also. 2. Yes Julia is buried next to Joe Colmer in Memorial Gardens Cemetery. They are buried in the Garden of Devotion, Joe Colmer, 3a (I think must be the row #)and 3 (must be the plot #). Julia Colmer, Garden of Devotion, 3a, plot 4. A daughter was going to put her in a nursing home, so another daughter, Audie Skinner took her in and she died on 26 Feb. 1984 at Audie's home in Texarkana, Ar. Julia was born on 6 Oct. 1902 in Arkansas. Joe Colmer was born about 1897, and died either 9 Sept. 1957 in Texarkana, Ar., or 11 Sept. 1957. I have a date I found online and a date that was listed in an obit which I have a copy. I did find photos for Joe, Julia Colmer, and a son, Ollie Colmer's gravestones. I am assuming I can post a pic by attach a file just like any email?? 3. I have not been able to check on the Joe Colmer buried in La. in 1894, but my grandfather Joe Colmer left his reservation somewhere around 12 years of age, which would have made the year about 1909 so it would have had to be the 1894 Joe Colmer's children possibly. I will continue to search for Adams gravesite and will post if I find something. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Her mother was Julia Ann Clark, daughter of Pleasant William Clark and Hannah Caroline Tharp. Her father was George Alan Arthur Harvin, son of William Harvin and Mary Huggins. Your Julia Ann Adams married Joe Colmer three weeks before she turned 13 years old. They were married in Hempstead Co. Ar.. The 1920 census showed that two of Julia Ann's siblings were living in the home with Joe and her. Maybe you could answer a couple of questions for me. (1) Have you found Raffale Adams grave? It's supposed to be near Fouke, Miller Co., Ar.. Is Julia Ann Colmer buried next to Joe Colmer at the East Memorial Cemetery? There is a double stone there with both of their names on it. Some people doubt she was ever buried there. There is not now or hasn't ever been a Buckner Co., Ar. The town of Buckner was in Columbia Co. Ar. til 1910 and then became part of Lafayette, Co. Ar... Have you checked out the Colmer couple buried at the Sardis ! Cemetery in Lafayette Co., Ar. They may be Joe's kin. Joe Colmer was buried in Louisiana in 1894. I will help you if I can.
