Lila, Andy's wife, was my Great Aunt, the sister of my Grandfather,George Yackle so it seems we are cousins!! The last time I saw Uncle Andy was in 1997 when he attended my parent's 50th wedding anniversary in Estherville, IA. He had recently been to an all school reunion and told us, "I was the only one there!" He laughed as he was well into his 90's then. He was a good man. Author: oldbruin Surnames: ADAMS, MARTIN, EDGERTON Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.adams/15235/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Recently I have seen a number of family trees posted on Ancestry.com showing Elias Lee ADAMS who married Charity MARTIN, as being born in Jefferson Co, NY, the son of George & Polly ADAMS. This is incorrect. I would like to correct the record and attempt to prevent the further spread of false information. I am the great grandson of Elias Lee ADAMS and Charity MARTIN and have researched this line extensively. The Elias who married Charity MARTIN in Delaware Co, IA, in 1853, is NOT the Elias ADAMS who was listed in the 1850 census in Jefferson Co, NY. The Elias who married Charity is NOT the Elias ADAMS who lived in Muscatine Co, IA. My ancestor was recorded in the 1860 census in Delaware Co, IA, with wife Charity and children; in the 1870 census in Lewis Co, MO, with Charity and children; and in the 1880 census in Barry Co, MO, with son, Asahel. The other two Eliases were in Jefferson Co, NY, and Muscatine Co, IA, respectively, in 1860-1880. This could have been easily discovered by consulting readily available on-line sources. It appears that this bad data may have been copied by a number of posters who didn't bother to do their own research and have consequently propagated this erroneous information all over the internet. I have collected enough evidence to convince me that Elias' parents were from Yates Co, NY. They were definitely NOT George ADAMS and Polly EDGERTON, and any ancestry derived from that conclusion is false. I am not prepared at this time to post the names of Elias' likely parents because I don't have absolute proof of parentage. I don't want to participate in the same propagation of misinformation that I am railing against here. Please, when you pick up information from other researchers, make some attempt to verify it. Or, at least, note on your web page that the data is copied from someone else without any verification. If you want to discuss my research or have corrections or disagreements, don't hesitate to contact me. John S. One of my goals is trying to determine the location (County) and date of when Leslie Virgil Adams died. One version of family folklore was that Leslie Virgil Adams passed away(accidental death)18 months after my father was born in Charleston West Virginia, which would put his death around 1935. However, I did locate a newspaper article (Jul 29, 1938, Newspaper:Charleston Gazette) with a wedding announcement of a Leslie Virgil Adams to a Beatrice Atkinson. Not sure if the folklore is correct or the 1938 newspaper Leslie is my dad's father or not. Are you related to basil? Would appreciate any additional info for Leslie Virgil Adams. My middle name is "Leslie" and was told it was the first name of my grandfather confirmed by the WV birth certificate I have on file. Thank you and appreciate the assistance.
