Author: jwjmbewv1 Surnames: Paschall and Howell Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.adams/7711.2.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Reading material with Paschall family name in it hoping for another clue that might lead me to Pachall Walker Howell b. abt 1808-13 in Barbour Co., VA now WV. No luck so far with finding by looking at the name only Howell, so I decided to try the female approach through the name of Paschall since females tend to give their maiden name to a son as his middle or first name as might be the case of this ancester of mine. Also the middle name of his being Walker might be a clue also. I found the community of Paschallville, near Darby, Kingsessing twp, in Philadelphia, PA where there are of course Paschell and Howell family and if I understand correctly some come from NJ. Could you share any knowledge you might have to give me some more clues in my search for Paschall Walker Howell m. Eliz Marple in Lewis Co., VA now WV, but b. in Barbour Co., VA(WV) I'd appreciate any time you might have to share with me. She isn't in my tree now. However, in saying that, my Adams' line comes from Harbour Grace originally and eventually immigrated to St. John's. I don't have a tree of Elizabeth Adams origins but, I have that in other member's trees...my line leads back to England before Harbour Grace. I am still working on one person at a time. You wouldn't happen to have any Harbour Grace Adams would you? There may very well be a connection among our ancestors but I just have to go back and figure it out. I do not visit Ancestry boards that much. How strange that when she came to England and Richard her husband died (c.1768) that Elizabeth married another man of the same surname as her first husband - Davis. They were hat-makers in London city. Did I ever give you the link to Richard and Elizabeth's son? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Sharp_(politician) I am very interested in the origins of Elizabeth Adams; is there a tree showing her genealogy or where the original Adams came from? My book is in Newfoundland libraries. Is there any way of giving you my email confidentially; it would be more efficient for communicating. Best wishes, David Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: 2jamesb999 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.adams/13998.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Thanks for your quick reply. I will catch you up on more now, and fill you in more later. My grandfather, James Robert (Jim) was Arrie's older brother. In the family there were three boys and three girls. The oldest son, Armstead died as an infant in 1880, less than a month old. Jim (my grandfather) and Emma Frances (Elf) were twins, and they were next in 1881. Elsie in 1883, Nora in 1888, and Arrie in 1891. All except Elsie and Arrie remained very close to home. Elsie married a native of northern Missouri and moved there to live her lifetime. I have had some contact with her grandson that lives between here and St. Louis, but he does not appear to be interested in the family tree. Arrie, of course went to St. Louis, then Chicago. Jim's family was the largest, six daughters and one son. We still have contact with Nora's family from time to time. Emma Francis's family has about all passed on, with perhaps one or two great grandchildren still around. Jim's family ! continues to grow. Two of his daughter's had no children, but in total Jim had 9 grandchildren, one was killed in 1937 as a young girl, the oldest passed away three years ago, the the remainding 7 were all together yesterday. Of the remaining 7, five still live near here, and two live in Nashville. Of the remaining 7, five have been school teachers, as was three of Jim's daughters. I do not know where Arrie B was buried. As a 7 year old I remember attending his funeral in the Chicago area in 1948 with my parents and grandfather, but none of our family had any further contact with Ida or Peggy Sue. My Aunt Lela (my father's older sister) made multiple attempts over the years, but was never successful. Yesterday we made some tentative plans to have an All Adams gathering this summer. Probably it will pick up again where it ended years ago. We always had a big day on the first Sunday in August because that was nearest the birthday of Jim and Emma Francis. There would be 40 or 50 family members gather each year. It ended in the late 1950's. Now those of us who were there as children are in our 60's and 70's. My mother, now 91 years old is the only remaining one of the older generation--of any branch of the older Adams family. We buried her brother in law, also 91 yesterday. He was married to Jim's youngest daughter. We will have the gathering somenear near our homes in Melber, Kentucky--just outside Paducah in the western part of the state if you are not familiar with the area. We would love to have as many of you as possible to attend. Got to run now--I still work full time, and then some, but I will write more. 1. [ADAMS] ADAMS, HAWKINS, FRENCH, others, in Sullivan Co. Indiana (photos)
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: CarlHaskins27 Surnames: ADAMS, HAWKINS, FRENCH, YATES, PHILLIPS Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.adams/15311/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello ADAMS Researchers; I have acquired a small stack of photos of a family and/or families from the Sullivan County area of Indiana. Several of the pictures have names on the back and I was able to do some preliminary research on these people. I am trying to repatriate these pictures with their family. The following is an outline of the family connections as far as I have been able to determine: Picture 1 is a tintype of Eddie FRENCH son of Erastus and Mellisa (HAWKINS) FRENCH, m. Spt. 30, 1868 in Sullivan Co. In the 1880 U.S. census for Turman, Sullivan, Indiana we find Erastus & Malissa FRENCH with a Anna L. ADAMS who is 11 yrs old in 1880 making her birth around 1869. Picture 2 is of Anna L. ADAMS (BAILEY) I found a marriage in Sullivan County between a John H. BAILY and Anna L. ADAMS, Mar 13 1887. His parents were Oliver BAILY & Lillis PHILLIPS. Her parents were Owen ADAMS & Sarah HAWKINS. Picture 3 is of Jesse E. ADAMS. He married Florence B. YATES on Dec.2, 1897 in Sullivan Co. Her parents were Isaac R. & Mary A (AUSTIN) YATES. His parents were, you guessed it, Owen & Sarah (HAWKINS) ADAMS. Picture 4 is of Mrs. M. ADAMS & boy. I assume this to be Jesse E. and his mother. Picture 5 is of Miss Lina(?) ADAMS. I think this could be the sister of Owen ADAMS, but no proof. Picture 6 is of Sally ADAMS. It looks contemporary with Owen ADAMS & his wife & sister but I don't know if it she is an ADAMS by marriage or not. Picture 7 is of Mr. L(?) ADAMS & girl. Too hard to read the first initial. Picture 8 is of John? It doesn't look like ADAMS but I can't read it. This one has a photographers name printed on the back. It states; PECKOVER'S Photograph Gallery, Paris KY. Most of these pictures are the same size and are the same design as the above-mentioned PECKOVER'S style. There is also the name E. L. WELLS (?) written on a few of them but I am pretty sure this is just the recipient of some of the pictures. There are also a few other unnamed pictures all on the same type of stock as the PECKOVER'S paper. Also included are about 6 or 7 unidentified tintypes. One is of 3 gents and is dated Aug 13/84. Please contact me if you would like to discuss these pictures further. Thanks soooooooooo much, in advance! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
