ADAMS, b about 1793 to a William ADAMS and Jane CONNER? James had sisters Rebecca, Nancy, and Amy. My line is from a Rebecca ADAMS, b about 1795 in SC. She married a John Thomas DALTON and moved to OH and then to CA. My Rebecca was listed as mulatto in the CA 1880 census...her daughter was also, and in her photograph, she looks quite native american. Evidently in CA both native americans and blacks were listed as mulatto.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: ADAMS, CHUNN, TURNER, BROOKOVER Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/CI.2ADEB/7802.2 Message Board Post: Here is what I have, but please be aware that this has not been verified through original documents, esp. the first generation. The descendants of George B. (who went to Muskingum Co., Ohio) have only been verified through History of Zanesville and census. I'm waiting for enough money to order original documents! 1. John ADAMS (19 Feb. 1718-28 May 1781) married Sarah Stacey Gibbons, likely on 3 January 1742 in Charles Co., MD. They had: i. John ADAMS (3 Dec. 1744-2 Jan 1816) who married Elizabeth BURROUGHS (BURROWS?) ii. George B. ADAMS (10 April 1747-16 Sept. 1827) who married Anna TURNER 26 June 1769 Fauquier Co., VA iii. Littleton ADAMS (12 Feb. 1752-1843) who married first Elizabeth ASH probably on 22 Sept. 1779. He married second, Harriet SMITH, probably 5 March 1793 iv. Elizabeth ADAMS (20 June 1754-?) who married Thomas Smith, probably 26 June 1769 in Fauquier County. v. Anna ADAMS (18 Aug.1757-?) married Francis ASH (ASHE), probably 20 December 1774 in Fauquier Co. vi. Thomas ADAMS (10 Feb. 1760-23 July 1832) married Rebecca WOOD vii. Josiah ADAMS (23 Sept. 1762-29 April 1842) married first Sarah BURROWS (BURROUGHS?) and second Marie MARSHALL. I do not think this is the Josiah Peake ADAMS some have placed here. viii. James ADAMS (1765-1850) married Elizabeth BRENT (BRANDT?) ix. Susannah ADAMS (1 April 1769-1784?) married Capt Thomas MARSHALL Generation 2: George B. ADAMS (10 April 1747 - 16 Sept. 1827) came with his family between 1797 and 1808 (it seems as if everyone has a different date.) He married on 20 June 1767 in Fauquier Co. Va. Anna TURNER, daughter of Samuel TURNER and Henrietta CHUNN. They had: i. Littleton (1771-1842) who married Ann CHUNN ii. Turner (1773-about 1830) who married Mary SMITH 16 Jan. 1797 in Fauquier co. iii. John (1776-?) who married a CHUNN iv. Samuel (1778-1883) who married Elizabeth SMITH 28 June 1803. v. Benjamin (1780-about 1883) who may have never married. vi. Beal (1783-1864) who married Elizabeth (Betsy) JETT vii. Susannah (1785-?) who may have never married. viii. James (1788-1818) who married Agnes McCONNELL ix. Mary (1790-1838) x. Evaline (1793-1873) who married Charles Robert COPLAND (COPELAND?) xi. Alexander (1795-1859) who married a Priscilla xii. Edward (1797-1861) who married Ellen STRUTHERS xiii. George Wilson (Willison) (1799-1879) who married Clarissa HOPKINS and Mary ROBINSON (Mary survived him.) My family married into the ADAMS family when Anna M. ADAMS married my great-grandfather, Milton Clay Brookover. Anna was the daughter of Zachariah ADAMS and Harriet Williams, grandaugter of Littleton Adams and Anna CHUNN. Since I have no original documents in hand, I do not cite any of this as gospel truth, but it is the best working document I have at this moment. The Charles Co. MD and Fauquier Co. Virginia ADAMS are difficult to trace for several reasons. First, they use the same first names over and over. Second, middle names are seldom recorded enough in colonial documents to make our work any easier. Third, this family seems to have married cousins a great deal. I hope this is of some assistance.
