Hello fellow researchers. Hallelujah! I finally have a maiden name for my Grandfather John Quincy Adams' mother MILLY ANN SANDERS/SAUNDERS -b. somewhere in SC 1826 ---d. Spartanburg SC 1897. Anyone with a daughter with this name or with MARY or ANN M. Sanders [as she appears on some of the censuses] -- b. about this time and this place please respond. AND a possible first name for his Father. On his probate file union County 1864 says "Q. D. Adams" on her grave stone 1867 says "w/o Q. B." and now on the death certificate of their daughter, Henrietta Adams Finch in 1960 --AT AGE 100-- it says parents- MILLIE ANN SAUNDERS AND BENJAMIN Q. ADAMS. I said a POSSIBLE first name because in 1960 Henrietta was 100 years old and "Q B" -her father- had been dead for 96 years so her daughter who provided info may NOT have been sure of his first name either. I would of course LIKE it to be Benjamin, especially as I named my eldest son that never thinking it to be a family name, so Looking now for Any Adams family with a BENJAMIN Q OR QUINCY OR QUENTIN B. son b. probably in SC and probably between 1815 and 1830 . Please check your ADAMS families for such a child Thanks . for all your help everyone. Steph P. Cecil stephaxi@mindspring.com

It is quite possible the Elizabeth S. you are wondering about is Susan. Just the other day I found a census for my grandmother who I had always known as Nora with a middle name of Elizabeth. Guess what! In her parents house she was listed as Elizabeth N. Adams. Remember the times. If you didn't like the name you had you could easily go by your middle name or change it completly. Who was to know. You didn't have all the red tape to go through you do now. I have also seen the same woman in repeating census lose as much as 12 years off of her age. My husbands grandmother refused to tell any one the year she was born. Ever. They didn't even know her true age when they buried her to put on her gravestone. But Social Security knew. I suspect her reason's started as vanity. She was much younger than her husband. Later as I am finding now, if people know your age they treat you as old. Perhaps you can find a marriage bond or certificate with a witness who was her mother or brother.

His name was Jesse ADAMS, and he was married to Susan PORTER in 1876, according to information I found on the KYGenWeb site for Elliott Co. He married at age 19, so he would have been born around 1857. Susan Porter was born around 1859, according to 1870 census information for Elliott Co. transcribed to the Web. Jesse and Susan Adams' daughter was Lula Belle Adams. She first married Wallace BROWN and then after he died she married my grandfather, John Henry POSTEMA, who was born as Jan Hendrik Postema in the Netherlands. 1880 census information that was sent to me by Charles Barker also lists a Jessee Adams, age 23 (so born abt 1857), with a daughter named Lula, age 2. Since we know that Lula Belle Adams was born in 1877, this makes sense. However, the spouse's name is given as "Elizabeth S." age 19 (so born abt 1861). While there isn't a huge gap between 1859 and 1861, and "S." in "Elizabeth S." might be a middle name of Susan, it seems a stretch to assume these are the same woman, without more information. I've learned quite a bit about a Jesse Adams who was the son of Pleasant Adams, much of this information coming from postings to the RootsWeb boards for Carter Co. However, that Jesse Adams seems to be a different person--he's older (b. 1842), and married to someone else. I understand that Pleasant Adams had at least one or two brothers. Could the Jesse Adams I'm looking for be Pleasant's nephew? Or am I just looking in the wrong places completely? So far I've found nothing about "my" Jesse Adams' parents, after quite a bit of looking, but I'm really curious to know more. Any and all information would be welcome--thank you! Now that you wrote it, I could see the same thing. I wonder where the brick school house is? Did you get my message on the Frank M born in MO living in IL? I also found a F M Adams born around 1823 living in Morgan County, Richland Twp, Dist 191. wife of Mary. I believe it was on the 1870 census. It was image 22 on Ancestry. Sounds like the Franklin M Adams that Gary was talking about that was born in 1823. Also, I ran just the last name of Adams with an approximate birth date a little older that Ellen. There is an Adams, no first name, in St Louis, or it might have been in St. Charles, that was born in Missouri, father and mother born in Missouri and he was married but no spouse with him. He was working in the car factory I beleive (going on memory here. LOL!) I still think Ellen's husband was working away from the home, like in St. Louis or maybe in Sedalia or Boonville for the Railroad. If you want a kick, run the 1870 census in Pettis County, Sedalia, page by page and look at the occupations and the property worth and personal worth and then when you get near some of the boarding houses and hotels, it's all people from Ireland. It was really fasinating. Cooper County - Boonville was like that too, only I think a little richer. Mary M
