We recently took part in the ADAMS DNA test. There have been 4 who have tested so far. At the moment, Squire's descendants have a perfect match with a descendant of Elijah Adams, son of Stephen "Rockhouse" Adams. I'm sure this will be contested but eventually, the DNA will have the last say on all the lines. I want to encourage everyone to keep an eye on the Adams DNA site to see who Squire ends up being descended from. Our results will not go on the site till April so you'll have to write me to see what's new till then. I'd be happy to exchange family info. I have been studying the census records from 1810-1840 and I believe there are additional sons of SRA that have not been recognized before.

While it is not on the site yet, there has been another match between another descendant of Stephen "Rockhouse" Adams, and Esquire Adams, supposed son of Stephen "Shank" Adams and Elizabeth Whitaker. The DNA does not match between the two descendants of SRA. While the three of us are going back up the line and proving our tree, we would really appreciate some more Adams to test. So far the DNA proves that there are at least 2 separate lines in Letcher, and it is thought there could be up to 4 different lines. Our family is from Squire and Elizabeth Craft, and we would love to exchange info with any of Squire's descendants. I can prove Squire's line from the present back to Squire, but not any further. This DNA test is definitely proving to make Adams family research a lot more interesting for Letcher County descendants who thought they were sure who they were descended from.

I found the information you had to be poor. Often when one passes away remaining relatives and or friends don't always have the correct information which seems to have been your case. Many Adams were somewhat recluse, thus difficulty in getting the right information.

Ive rescued an old photograph of Bernice Emily ADAMS which was taken at the W. G. Weatherup Studio in Westfield, New York. The photograph appears to have been taken sometime in the 1880s with Bernice noted as just 4 months old and 14 ½ lbs. at the time it was taken. Im hoping to locate someone from Bernices family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to its rightful place within the family. If you are a member of this family, or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley
