    1. James Adams birth unknown ETn & Elizabeth Thompson birth unknown NC
    2. Alli
    3. I'm searching for a needle in a hay stack 4th great grandparents James Adams no birth or death date from/born Tn. married to an unknown Children: (possibly) Nellie Adams no birth info. died prior to 1909 James Adams no birthdate E. Tn d. after 1850(About 1882) possibly in Mo. married Elizabeth Thompson no birthdate N.C. (possibly 1/2 Cherokee) died after 1850(about 1864) but before 1909 possibly in Mo. Their Children: Martha Malinda Adams b. 1838 Tn. d. 1918 Chelsea, Okla. married Samuel Phariss b. 1824 Tn. died 1872 (I think) Chelsea, Okla. She supposedly drew Bread Money from the Cherokee Tribe in 1872 at Fort Gibson, in Okla. I have from her on, but would like to find more on her back Siblings of Martha's, children of Elizabeth & James Adams: Mary Ann Adams b. 1840 possibly Tn. died after (possibly) 1909 married unknown Williams was living in Urbana, Mo. in 1907 or 1909 George W. Adams b. 1854 d. abt. 1903 no place listed Russell Adams b. 1841 d. abt. 1900 no place listed Jesse N(Newton) Adams b. unknown d. 1905 no place listed. One thing I have noticed in researching this line (at least from Martha & Samuel down to present) is that they named their children after their family/relatives so I am wondering if George, Russell & Jesse aren't possible siblings of their grandfather James Adams or possibly their great grandfather James Adams. I know that they aren't in the Phariss line, they possibly could be in their grandmother Elizabeth Thompson Adams family, but her siblings were David & James & Father was Thomas. Anyway.......hope to find a cousin sometime. Alli :)

    1. Robert Adams & Eveline McCord history
    2. Alli
    3. Just for clarification as apparently there are still a few members unsure of this topic...... it IS allowed to be discussed, I wasn't stopping it from being talked about. Just asked that "movie" wasn't frequently mentioned....that was it. I am not (for some reason) seeing my messages so I don't know if my server has flagged them or what, but hopefully .......this will go thru & everyone's clear as to what I had said :) About the movie Upon the headstones of Robert Adams and Eveline McCord Adams are written their telling epitaphs. Robert's reads, "After life's fitful fever, he sleeps well." Eveline's reads, "To know her was to love her." Filmed on location where the true events actually took place, the current generations of Adamses followed the path of Robert and Eveline to bring their story to life. http://www.strongbowpictures.com/strikethetent/truestory/ BTW: No one has ever been banned (kicked off permanently) for coming to me in private to voice their opinions about what kind of list owner I am & it hasn't happened for complaining on the list either....despite what someone thinks LOL IF you have a complaint or comment to make (good or bad)the contact addy for me is below every message posted on the list......you can email me anytime w/o fear. ;) Alli <non-grumpy listowner> :)

    2. You know how to post correctly......meaning you put the correct info. in the subject line to get people's attention. If you don't want to post your line every so often to hopefully find a connection that's fine....but you don't need to come out of lurking just to complain, which seems to be when I see you post. Hopefully you'll find a connection. Alli This morning I shared an opinion, not a complaint. I responded very nicely and appropriately. I have posted my information many times previously, but do not feel it is considerate to others, nor do I have the time to post daily, weekly, or even monthly. Any decision on how often to post one's information is purely a personal one, and since I work outside the home, I am not really in any great hurry at this time. Because I do not respond to information that does not apply to me does not mean that I "lurk". I am always reading and hoping for a connection. The statements above are completely inappropriate, and unwarranted. I was not aware that members were not permitted to have an opinion about the content of this site. If I inadvertently missed changing the subject in the subject line I certainly apologize. I had simply hit reply, as most of us do, and which is how I received the message I was responding to in the first place. The last time I checked my dictionary, opinions are not necessarily complaints, but make no mistake about this, this IS a complaint. I hope this is not how this site is going to be run from here on out. Suzanne Adams Diaz

    3. The statement that Suzanne chose to post to the list was done in private & due to this she will be moderated. She's been a member here long enough to know how to post correctly even w/hitting Reply as I have done w/her message. She comes out of lurking to complain more often then to post & I have little patience w/someone who takes a private message & post's to the list. This was unwarranted & inappropriate... List members are allowed to have an opinion as she's ALWAYS been allowed to voice her's w/o a consequence until now. Anymore issues about my messages are to be sent to me privately & the messages I send to you in private are not to be reposted to the list to try & get members to side w/you or to get the list in an uproar. This is a great list w/a great group of people & I'm a pretty laid back list owner. Alli > The statements above are completely inappropriate, and unwarranted. 1. Reposting: Sarah Jane Adams, born 1833 - Tennessee
    2. Reposting my great-great grandmother, Sarah Jane Adams, born 1833 in Tennessee. Possibly Coffee county. She came to Oregon in 1850 with her parents. When she died in 1902, there were three brothers and one sister left to mourn. Unlike most Oregon pioneers, Sarah Jane's family is mysterious. Who is this pioneer girl who was only 17 when she arrived and 18 when she married Joseph Columbus Cornelison of Franklin County, Tennesee (a divorcee)? Thank you, Shirley

    3. My Adams line (James Adams b. E. Tn, died? married Elizabeth Thompson, N.C. his parents James Adams b. Tn. d? married ? possible sister to one of them Nellie Adams no info.) was from Tn. I was wondering if anyone on the East Coast had heard of American Haunting? Its (a movie) about an Adams family out of Tn. Someone who lives on the East Coast just mentioned it to me as we discussed the Strike Tent (sp) & its genealogy connection/history. So I was wondering if anyone heard of it as I'd like to research it to find out if it has any of the same family history/connection as this other one mentioned? Alli

    1. Re: [ADAMS-L] Fw: Strike the Tent--Question
    2. OK Alli; Here goes!!!!!! For those of you who have read and re-read this, I apologize, but I am reposting my ADAMS family information in the hopes that a new member might recognize or think they recognize some of the information. In fact, with the ADAMS families as in many other lines, family names tend to be used repeatedly through the generations, so please look for those kind of relationships as you read: I am looking for information on a James Adams who according to census records, was born in Ireland in or near 1782. He is first shown for sure in the 1850 census in Monroe County, Salem Township, Ohio with a wife Sarah, who was born abt 1791 or 1792, also from Ireland. I do not know if the two came here as a married couple, or separately, met and married later. Because I do not know if this James came to US as a young boy, I can't really search prior to 1840 because I don't know his father's name. Now, this James and Sarah had a number of children: Jane Adams (Hill), Letitia, Nancy, and James (Jr?) that I know of. James and Sarah lived in Ohio all their child rearing life, and are both buried at Sykes Ridge, in Monroe County near a place called Round Bottom, very near the Ohio River. I am told that this James worked on the National Road from the areas between Washington, PA and Wheeling, WV. Jane Adams shows up in 1860 with her 3 children, Benjamin F, James A, and Sarah. Letitia married a John Morrow, and Nancy married a John Giffen. James married Hannah Sycks of the above named Sycks Ridge. James and Hannah married and moved to Sedalia, Mo right after the civil war, and by 1880 the whole family was separated. I have more info, but if any of the names or dates ring a bell to anyone, please, please, please, contact me. I was interested in the Strike the Tend info because my brother took a DNA test and matches with some Carolina Adams's which makes me think that when they came here to the US, some may have gone west, and others gone south. I anxiously await any and all responses. Sincerely, Suzanne Adams Diaz

    3. ok I'm going to lead the parade. I am in search of the parents of the following boys. John A. Adams b. 1822 m. Nancy Marlin William J. Adams b. 29 Apr. 1824 m. Mary Marlin Archibald Stewart Adams b. 1829 m. Rachel Marlin It is said that the Adams and Marlins were friends/neighbors in Londonderry Ireland Maghera Parish. The Adams supposedly came over first sometime very late 1700's. The boys were born here. The girls are daughters of John Morrow Marlin and Rachel Graham. They came to America circa 1831-34 with 11 of 14 children and took up residence in Chester Co. area of S. C., attending the Fishing Creek Church. Two of the Marlin girls m. Wylie boys. Nancy Marlin's brother John Morrow Marlin Jr. m. Lilly Ann Wylie. They raised a John G. Adams who was supposedly one of 4 boys, him being the youngest at about age 4 when his parents (John Adams and Mary Brown) died about 1844. This John G. Adams m. the daughter of my Nancy Marlin and John A. Adams. Rachel E. Adams b. 1848 d/o John A. Adams and Nancy Marlin. She married John G. Adams son of John Adams and Mary Brown who d. circa 1844 John G. Adams was raised by the brother of Nancy Marlin So John G. Adams (however related) m. the neice of the man who raised him. How he was related to Nancy Marlin's husband John A. Adams is a myster. How he THEN was related to his wife Rachel E. Adams is also a mystery. He went further to Clay Co. AR. My John A. Adams was born 1822 Chester S. C. John G.'s father John Adams was born 22 Dec. 1817 Chester S.C. Looking for possible other sons by the names of William Watson Maybe even George John G. being the youngest I believe my John A. Adams and this mystery John Adams b. 1817 are 1st cousins and "their" fathers are brothers. I believe my John A. Adams father was named John. I believe John Adams b. 1817 father was William. The Adams were gone from SC before the Civil War and went through Obion Co. TN as did some Marlins and scattered about till reaching White Co. IL where my family finally landed. William J. Adams b. 29 Apr. 1824 S.C. d. 26 Jun 1854 White Co. IL m. 1847 to Mary Marlin. Children were James Jackson Adams b. 1848, Rachel Jane Adams b. 1849 and John Calvin Adams b. 1854 Archibald Stewart Adams b. 1829 S.C. m. 1856 to Rachel Marlin. I have no children for them. 1850 Chester Census claims he was living with his brother prior to his marriage to Rachel. 3. ok for some odd reason a lot of you have TOTALLY misread, misunderstood, misinterpreted or not even paid attention to my post about the ADAMS family being made into a movie. I am going to use CAPS here in a minute so hopefully you can see what I am writing......... I did NOT SAY THAT THE TOPIC OF THE STRIKING TENTS MOVIE......THE ADAMS FAMILY....COULD NOT BE DISCUSSED. I did however ASK THAT THE MOVIE not be mentioned a lot, but the TOPIC OF THE MOVIE CAN BE FULLY, COMPLETELY AND 100% BE DISCUSSED. its the ADAMS FAMILY INFORMATION THAT'S *IN* THE MOVIE THAT I WOULD LIKE TO SEE BE DISCUSSED. IT IS 100% NEAT THAT A PERSON'S FAMILY HISTORY IS SO COMPLETE THAT THEY CAN MAKE A MOVIE OF IT *AND* A REAL LIVE FAMILY MEMBER CAN PORTRAY THEIR ANCESTOR. now......did any of you complaining (privately or publicly) understand that? The TOPIC/ADAMS FAMILY CAN BE DISCUSSED. it was the constant mention of the MOVIE part that I asked NOT be. It'd be kind of dumb to say that a genealogy related surname & history can not be discussed on a list that was created for...duh!! So discussing ADAMS family names/History/info. CAN be discussed. Of course. now..........for the everyone else..........can you PLEASE post your family that your searching for (both OLD AND NEW MEMBERS) so we can all see who is searching for who along w/the info. of the ADAMS movie? thank you Alli

    3. SOME reference is fine. I have never had a problem with that.....And for being a long time member Suzanne you should know I don't interrupt "dialogues" unless there's a reason for it. The topic of the movie CAN be discussed w/o it being constantly mentioned as being a movie. There was a link that was posted for it, so people can check out the link. I'd like to go see it IF it shows in my area. And you could have more success at finding someone who relates to your Adams if you posted your information periodically instead of just reading. Your (anyone in general)not going to find your family if you just stay in the back ground & never post your tree for the new members to see. We've had several new members joining, I asked not to long ago that everyone repost who they are searching for......not one person new or old has done that. The only activity there's been is messages from the Message board. But boy as soon as I ask that the 'movie' (NOT the info. w/in it) part not be mentioned the list comes to life LOL Please continue talking about the family that this movie is about.....I never asked that THAT part of the conversation be stopped. 1. Genealogy of Adams and Richardson
    2. Gary Richardson
    3. Here's a little rundown of my own Adams family history. You'll note, it gets a bit confusing to follow. I wish I could have attended some of the family reunions back when. If they all compared notes, I think they might be a bit surprised to find out just how related they all were! Stephen Wilkes Richardson, 1813-1890, Franklin, Norfolk Co, MA is my 3rd great grandfather. He married 3 times. His first wife was Eliza Bullard, daughter of Amos Bullard and Abigail Adams. Abigail was born 18 Oct 1787 in West Medway, MA, married 1806. Stephen's 3rd wife was Mary Bullard, the sister of Eliza. The children were all born to Eliza and Stephen. Abigail Adams maternal great grandfather was Daniel Adams, 1685/86 - 1772, in Medway, MA, and he was married to Sarah Sanford. Abigail Adams paternal great grandfather was Obidiah Adams, 1689-1765, in Medway. Obidiah was the younger brother of Daniel Adams. He married Christiana Sanford, Sarah Sanford's older sister. So, for Abigail, her great grandfather's were brothers, her great grandmothers were sisters, and somehow or other, I think she may have been her own cousin! They all date back to John Adams (1657-1751) and Deborah Partridge (1662-1750/51) who were married in 1681 in Milford, MA. Daniel and Obidiah were two of 6 sons of John and Deborah. Both the Partridge family, and the Adams family were from England. (I wonder if I should mention, there have been TV shows known as the Partridge Family and the Addams Family?!) John Adams is a 1st cousin, 3 times removed, to President John Quincy Adams, with Henry Adams and Edith Squire as their common ancestors. The rest of the Richardson line is somewhat similar. More than a few of them had parents or grandparents who were related in their own right, outside of the marriages themselves. Oops, almost forgot. There is a Ruth Adams, who married Thomas Bacon in 1796 in Medway. Ruth is the grand-daughter of Daniel Adams and Sarah Sanford, which makes her Abigail Adams 1st cousin, once removed. Ruth is also my 4th great grandmother, (as is Abigail) through the Bacon and Allen family. She and Abigail skipped a few generations of common Richardson descendants, but they are both related to my great grandfather, William Stephen Richardson, of Franklin, MA. Stephen Wilkes Richardson was his paternal grandfather. Phew! If you followed all that, congratulations! If you'd like to 'poke around' these Adams and Richardson's, try Rootsweb. My database title is gar3131. You'll find many duplicate names (4 Ruth Adams and 12 Abigail Adams, for instance) so the dates will help you sort them out. Gary Allen Richardson

Eastern Daylight Time, iamcheroke@filertel.com writes: agree Gary that there needs to be more stories about our Ancestor's to go along with the names, dates, wills & census records...... But what I am saying is that we need to discuss the MOVIE less & the STORY of ancestors & such more. RW frowns on "off topic" (Movie) chatter. that is why I (the listowner) am requesting that the movie (itself) be discussed less, but the ADAMS topic the story of the movie can be shared. Alli :) I appreciate the fact that this listowner monitors conversation, because I have been a member of lists the go WAY off topic, however, I am an ADAMS descendant and am so glad that there has been a lot of chatter about this movie. I feel it is totally relevant and we have to discuss the movie to learn about its topic, how to obtain it and to know more about the family it portrays. I feel it is impossible to talk about one thing without some reference to the other. I read the posts everyday, and so far none of them relate to my ADAMS. However, much dialogue continues between certain individuals that does not relate to any of us. The same applies here. In fact, this movie, or the topic of the movie might actually be some of the information I have been waiting for. I hope dialogue about the movie of this ADAMS family topic is not halted until we learn more about it and the particular ADAMS family it recognizes. That's just my opinion. Suzanne Adams Diaz

    3. I get the point. Mine was, the movie seems to be about an Adams (two actually) with a descendant playing the role of the ancestor. Can't get much more genealogical than that... "Michel Foucault's concept of genealogy is the history of the position of the subject which traces the development of people and society through history. His genealogy of the subject accounts for the constitution of knowledges, discourses, domains of objects etc., without having to make reference to a subject which is either transcendental in relation to the field of events or runs in its empty sameness throughout the course of history." ----- Original Message ----- From: Alli<mailto:iamcheroke@filertel.com> To: ADAMS-L@rootsweb.com<mailto:ADAMS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, May 10, 2006 10:31 PM Subject: Re: [ADAMS-L] Fw: Strike the Tent--Question I agree Gary that there needs to be more stories about our Ancestor's to go along with the names, dates, wills & census records......
