Would love to find out if there is anyone on the list related to this Adams line. I have been researching my Adams line that comes from Indiana Pa and not been able to locate any other descendants. My brick wall is Samuel Douglas Adams born February 23, 1811 Indiana County Pa. died April 11, 1887. Married Lydia (Ostrander or Pierce?) who died in 1845 with 2 of their daughters of small pox in Pgh. The only name of the children that we knew was my great great grandmother Ann Jane Adams Allshouse born 20 Nov 1836 Indiana Pa Married Jan 14, 1856 Finley Allshouse (1837 - 1901) Died April 12, 1923 Other children.... Sarah Rebecca Adams b. 22 May 1838 Armstrong, Pa d. 05 Dec 1913 Catherine E. Adams born Oct 31, 1839 married 1860? Arthur Murray. died Oct 26, 1921, George W. Adams b. 16 Jul 1843 Indiana, Pa d. 06 Dec 1861 at Camp Negley Ky. Mary Adams b. 20 Nov 1845 Pittsburgh, Allegheny, Pa d. 31 Dec 1845 The other daughter to have died in 1845 with Lydia may have been an Amanda Adams who was buried Allegheny Cemetery Lawrenceville Pa. The height of my grandmother was passed down in a story. But, also, I know that her husband was 6' and we can tell a bit about her height in pictures they were in, together. The Baileys had a wonderful sibling picture taken and the height of Elizabeth Bailey - 6'2" and her brother, Ezekiel, 6'11" was noted on the bottom of the picture. With them were three other siblings (men) who were seated. One was Isaac Bailey, who married Elizabeth Adams. I think that the Bailey men were born in Kentucky. Thank you, Shirley
Hello, Just a tip. If you have a death date, be sure to write to the library nearest to where the death occurred and request an obit. Usually, the library will ask for a donation to cover cost of copies and postage. It is a great way to find out who siblings were, parents names, etc. It hasn't worked for me for my Adams brick wall, but it might work for you! Shirley
Have you traced Sarah & George in the census back to their "parents" (each as a separate family) Do you have a death date/place for Sarah I just went blank on what else I was going to ask :( Alli ----- Original Message ----- From: "Thomas and Sandra Stephens" <twssls@flash.net> > Looking for information on this family: > > John Martin Adams married Sarah Jane Funderburg 4 Jan 1871 in Washington > Co., TX > They are found in 1880 in Grimes Co., TX and in 1900 in Medina Co., TX, > both born in Alabama about 1849. > Children as listed in census records are Edward E., James A., Lula M., > and Jennie M. > > I am trying to ascertain if this Sarah Jane Funderburg is a sister of my > ancestor George W. That's neat. Most of what I've heard about people's height back then was that they were fairly short. It was rare that you get many in the higher 5 foot range let alone in the 6 foot range. So that's neat to see a whole family taller then most. Very cool Alli :) > The height of my grandmother was passed down in a story. Good tip. Never thought to contact a library. Our library collects some newspapers, but they don't do any genealogy related work. Alli :) > Hello, > Just a tip. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Adams Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/CI.2ADEB/9466 Message Board Post: I am not related to this family nor doing research on this family. I am providing this information hoping to help you in your research. (Indiana County Gazette, Wednesday, November 14, 1900) Indiana, Pennsylvania Miss Margaret Adams, aged 40 years, died suddenly of heart trouble, at her home in Homer City, on Friday morning. She had been in her usual health and had eaten a hearty breakfast. She was washing the dishes when the summons came. The deceased is survived by three brothers and a sister. The funeral services, conducted by Rev M.S. Telford, were held Sunday afternoon in the Homer City U.P. church. Interment was made in Oakland cemetery.
Do you by chance have a copy of your parents' marriage license? Was he by chance in the Military at all? If he was there's a slim chance that you can send off for his pension records (which can take some time to get if they moved around any...it took 9-10 mos. for me to get a copy of my great grandfather's & they ended up coming from my state's VA instead of where he lived or enlisted) & there 'MIGHT' be a copy of any prior marriages or divorces. I got lucky & had this info. in my great grandfather's pension record (along w/his health records) he had been married once before & had 2 kids, none of the kids or grandkids knew about this except for one of the oldest boys from his second marriage....unfortunately he didn't pass any of the info. on (that anyone will fess up to sharing w/me). If you knew whether he lived in ks. prior to marrying your mom you might (if you haven't already) search for any prior marriages or divorces or try social Security to find about his prior wives. I know that if a man has been married for at least 10 yrs before divorces his x can draw off of his social security even if he remarries. Maybe going thru tax records, property liens & social security records could be an avenue to try if you haven't already? I am searching for information on my grandfather, George Clinton Adams, born in 1892 or 1893, to Amelia and Joseph Adams (son of Christopher and Mary Ann Adams of Highland County, Ohio), in Hamilton County, Cincinnati, Ohio. Does anyone connect to this family?
Researching both Elizabeth Adams Bailey and Sarah Jane Adams. Sarah, born 1833 in Tennessee. Elizabeth married into an extremely tall line of Baileys (one was 6'11"). Sarah Jane's daughter (my great-grandmother) was said to be 5'10". Not even positive if Elizabeth and Sarah were related, but Sarah was involved in the probate of Elizabeth. And, of course, they had the same last name. Both were Oregon pioneers in the same town. Any assistance would be appreciated. Shirley
