Sometime between 1850 and 1860 He moved with his family from Vermont to what is now West Virginia. While there he was Adjutant for the state militia and was captured and presumed killed by local rebel guerrillas in May of 1864. His wife, Happilonia remarried George Barney in 1867 and then they moved back to Vermont. John and Happi had 3 children Adelaide D, Zeri A and Solon A. None of those children show up on the 1870 census. Granted Adelaide would be 26 or 7 in the 1870 census, Zeri about 23 and Solon 16. My question is does anyone know where these children went? Adelaide does not "show up" on the census again until 1880 when she is married to George Hamlin. Adelaid would be my Great great grandmother Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I have been trying to find this family on the 1870 census in AR, to no avail. Phoebe Adams was born 12 Feb 1845 Marion Co, AR to George W. Adams and Mariah Louisa LYNN. I have this line back, and agree with it. I have not been able to find a marriage record for Phoebe Adams to Gould Berry Thompson, or for Phoebe Thompson to Mr. McGee (I have conflicting names, James H., James B., and John B.). Gould Berry Thompson later married Hannah MORGAN and had children, in Marion Co, AR. I've found no record of a divorce for Phoebe and Gould Berry Thompson. Mr. McGee died sometime after the 1880 AR census, and Phoebe started the move thru AR to Van Zandt County, TX where she died in 1903. I've documented all of this. Right now I'm trying to document Phoebe in the household of Gould Berry Thomas in 1870 and hope someone might be able to help me. I am working on the Adams/Marlin lines of Chester Co. SC and have seen references along the way of Camden Dist. It is said that the "elder" arrived around late 1700's. His children (only have 3 boys right now) were born in the 1820's in Chester S.C. They were intermingled with the Wylie and Morrow families. They left Chester around mid 1800's and traveled through TN, Obion Co. to be specific and then into Indiana and more specifically White Co. IL.
