My Elisha Adams b ca 1765 in central PA and was married in KY and then moved to Indiana in 1821. My Grand Aunts, Opal Adams and Pearl Adams, were 100% convinced Elisha was the 2nd cousin for John Q Adams, and thus related to Capt Elihu. In 2001 I started the Adams surname Y-DNA project to prove or refute this family oral history. The results are the science of Y-DNA has refuted my Adams family Presidential connection, as it has for 19 out of 20 other Adams families. There is just one Presidential Adams family oral history that is supported by the Y-DNA testing The other part of the story is I have yet to find any other Adams family as my relatives - could you be a cousin? I have old newspaper articles and old family lore that we are cousins of John Adams the president. I think there is a possibility my John Adams born 1769 may be the child of Capt. Elihu Adams. My Adams ancestry goes through West Virginia/Virginia, but stops at a Daniel and Elizabeth Adams, parents of George Rosil Adams. Only note on Daniel was he died abt 1803 and Eliz. was his second wife. George was born in 1802 near Lovettsville,Loudon County VA. Sources say he had two stepbrothers,one being Thomas D. Adams born in 1791 & James born in 1788 in Loudon County, VA. George was married to Mary Ann Holbert, Elizabeth Bowman Neville,& Mary Scott Moore; He resided in Preston County according to 1840 & 1860 census. He resided in Tucker County in 1870; died in 1888 in Preston County and now resides in Lantz Ridge Cemetery. My grandfather was Cread Adams and his dad was Peter K. Adams. Peter's dad was William "Mac" Adams and his dad was George Rosil Adams all from West Virginia. Would like to find info on George's parents to continue hunt. Thanks for any help you could offer.
