I estimate him to be born between 1900 & 1910. Not sure if they were married or not but lived with Anna May Floyd in Iowa Point Kansas in 1928. They had a child Helen Louise in that yr. Then in 1931 had a child, Bobbie Jo. Not sure of Bobbie's birthplace. Bobbie was placed for adoption at 6 months of age in Pampa Texas. Then they had a still born boy in Pampa, Texas in 1933. Orvil A. was a musician and moved around a lot, leaving his family much of the time. He apparently also had a girl with a mistress during this time. None of the paper work I have tells his date or place of birth. I can not find them in any census. He and Anna split and she remarried.I know is long shot but maybe someone will know of this man. My HINDMANS came into So Carolina from N Ireland probably about the same time your ADAMSES did, they too ended up in So IL. Getting back to the problem, yes I am well aware of the significance of the rivers, and how they traveled all over by boat/raft. I believe that is how they traveled, and possibly lived on the raft at times. There are two big ADAMS families that ended up in central IL, one or part of the Madison/Macoupin Co IL family was in McMinn Co TN, the other family were in Marion Co IL, they spent some time in Logan Co KY during their journey to IL from VA. BUT, there were representatives of another ADAMS family in Roane, a neighbor of McMinn, and McMinn Co Tn, the Joseph Jose Rowdens, Susannah Sookey Rowden was a VA ADAMS, supposed to be d/o Robert and Mourning PIGG ADAMS, her supposed sister Milly, was married to brother Laben Rowden and ended up in Georgia, near Atlanta. I read something the other day that had Laben in McMinn in the late 1700's on a taxlist, so guess they were there before Georgia. IL McMinn Co. TN is very near the GA. border and appears to encompass at least a portion of the Cherokee National Forest. The TN River passes right near McMinn Co and continues on down into Alabama connecting below Huntsville with the other portion of the TN River which runs down from the Ohio River. The Tennessee River is the largest tributary of the Ohio River. It is approximately 652 miles long. The river was once popularly known as the Cherokee River, among other names. It loops through northern Alabama and eventually forms a small part of the state's border with Mississippi, before returning to Tennessee. The final part of the Tennessee's run is in Kentucky. It then flows into the Ohio River at Paducah, Kentucky where it joins the Ohio River. This was major, major river trading, travelling and business areas. White Co. IL is just up a piece where the Wabash comes into the Ohio. Then you travel on down through Paducah and into where the Mississippi and Ohio rivers all join. Cape Girardeau MO was another major water way town up above where these two rivers connected. Cairo, IL was a big town back then. So this most likely is the areas you need to concentrate around. All this leads down the Mississippi and all those towns along the river into New Orleans was big business. WHY did I mention all this you are asking? Because my Adams (which were from Chester Sc) also went to White Co, IL. Some stayed there but others moved on to mostly MO and AR. I don't know anything about Jackson Co. IL but if you look at a map.... Cape Girardeau MO, Murphysboro/Carbondale, IL (Jackson Co.) Mt. Vernon Jefferson Co. and Carmi/Enfield (White Co. IL)where my Adams were are all in a trianglular area between the Railroads and Rivers. Murphysboro and Carbondale were very busy cities back then, also very near the Missouri River (mere moments before it came into Ohio and Missippii rivers) and also smack dab at the edge of the Shawnee Nat'l Forest and Trail of Tears State Park. My John ADAMS b 1802 Va, was an elusive character, We know that he left his family for about 5 years to trade with the "Indians", we believe he was in KY or (McMinn CO?) TN at the time, probably in the early 1830's. He md. Ailsey Unknown b 1813 GA before 1831. When he returned from trading, his family had moved on, he searched, but never found them again. My cousin's family history said, that the ADAMSES peddled goods on the rivers by raft/flatboat, We don't know which rivers though. Now what is the story on your ADAMS and his NA wife? Please tell us. We have several of John's children that we cannot trace after their marriages, and several died young.John died in White County, IL about 1858-9. Two of the sons settled in Jackson Co.,IL. I have wondered many times if Ailsey was a Cherokee, his travels from TN to Il took place at the time of the "Trail of Tears". He did, I believe, arrive in the Frankfort area via the Kentucky river (though I am not sure how one navigates a flatboat up stream). And I have record of him acquiring 50 acres in Old Bridgeport Ky around late 1797 early 1798. I believe we was married twice. There is old family correspondence that mentions that Agnes "Nancy" Culbertson was his 2nd wife. And I have good documentation on this union (and my ties to it). But I have yet to find any evidence of the first wife. And I am doubtful that he is descendant of Elihu but he could be. He was born in 1768/69 as far as I can tell.
