Samuel D (Douglas) Adams We do not know what town Samuel was from originally. Born February 23, 1811 Indiana County Pa. 1811 - April 11, 1887 ? Samuel D Adams m.? Lydia Ostrander (about 1792 Died 10 Dec 1845 of smallpox in Pittsburgh Pa with two of their daughters) Samuel Douglas Adams b February 23, 1811 Indiana County Pa, on the LDS IGI listed as a relative to Anne Jane Adams Allshouse. A descendant said that Anne Jane said "her father Samuel Adams, had claimed to be a direct descendant of John Quincy Adams, believed to possibly be a nephew. Research did not bear this claim out, but the descendant thought it could be possible that our Samuel wasn't mentioned in any of the books, as most children are, simply because he did marry an Indian Maiden and was said to have several papooses". Others researching with LDS before I got involved in this research, found listing for Lydia's daughter Anne Jane Adams as being endowed September 13, 1911 Salt Lake City Utah for her parents. Taken from Salt Lake Temple records #9038 Book D IVG., page 252. They came back with the name Lydia Ostander Adams. Other LDS research, to verify the information found three listings for her, with three different spellings of her first name. Ann Jane Adams; Anne Jane Adams; and Ann (Anna) Jane Adams. All show her married to Samuel Adams, but list Lydia's maiden name as OSTANDES not Ostander. When I went to familysearch.com I found nothing on Anne Jane, or Samuel, but on a search for Lydia came up with this: LDS film #1761135 Lydia Adams husband Samuel Douglas m abt 1792 Indiana Pa. Filmed Temple records of deceased individuals, it seems to be from 1870? Filmed by Genealogical Society of Utah. The 1840 fed. census does not list a Samuel Adams in Westmoreland County. Then a relative provided info from the LDS IGI Samuel Douglas Adams b February 23, 1811 Indiana County Pa, on the LDS IGI listed as a relative to Anne Jane Adams Allshouses. He also located Lydia Ostander b. 1820 Jefferson County Pa. A relative found her on the LDS IGI listed as a relative to Anne Jane Adams Allshouse. I went back to Familysearch.com to double check what had been found on Lydia and Samuel previously. This time there were death dates listed for both of them which hadn't been there before. Lydia Ostander b. about 1820 Jefferson Pa. d. 10 Dec 1845 husband Samuel Douglas Adams b. 23 Feb 1811 Indiana Pa d. 11 Apr 1887 1880 our Samuel would have been 69 years old Samuel D. ADAMS - 1880 United States Census / Pennsylvania Other Gender: Male Birth: <1811> PA Went to familysearch again this time found a Samuel D Adams in the 1880 census born 1811 Pa age 69, a widower, was listed as a painter living in the household of James A Dixon in Sandy, Clearfield Pa.with parents born in Scotland. d. 11 Apr 1887 Later on I found the following Family Ordinance Records Husband - Samuel Adams Wife - Lydia Ostander Adams Children Sarah Rebecca Adams b. 22 May 1838 of,, Armstrong, Pa d. 05 Dec 1913 LDS Ordinance P 21 Dec 1915 SGEOR George W. Adams b. 16 Jul 1843 of,, Indiana, Pa d. 06 Dec 1861 LDS Ordinance P 21 Dec 1915 SGEOR Mary Adams b. 20 Nov 1845 of,, Pittsburgh, Allegheny, Pa d. 31 Dec 1845 LDS Ordinance B Child E Child P 21 Dec 1915 SGEOR George W Adams (same George as above don't know why he's listed twice) Christening Sep 1911 LDS Ordinance P 21 Dec 1915 SGEOR Ann Jane Adams Allshouse b. 20 Nov 1836 , Indiana Pa LDS Ordinance P 21 Dec 1915 SGEOR Now we have a sister Catherine E Adams Murray from Anne Janes application for her husband Finleys Civil War pension. A possible Amanda who died with Lydia in 1845 as per the reburial from the Methodist Burying Ground we found at Allegheny Cemetery. Mary looks good for the name of the other daughter who died with Lydia as per Anne Janes story about two sisters dying with their mother, since the death dates are 21 days apart. Very possibly common ancestors back in Botetourt--where Robert Adams spent a lot of years. Seems I have heard of a william. Adams is a pretty common name. Good farmers! And wondered if the Myrtle Creek Adams were related. The Myrtle Creek Adams came from Botetourt Co., VA, originally. Their group claimed 3,200 acres right near each other. Some think they were part of the groups that were intent on starting churches. Joe Cornelison was related to at least one other Adams - William? He came later - the 1860's and settled near Roseburg. They came possibly through CA, but most likely had been in Taney Co., Missouri before that. Ah, Napa Valley. The other surnames in the group were Bailey, Weaver, Wright and Cornelison. Bailey's two brothers were killed by Indians and he sued the US government. Many stories.... Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. He, Thomas, left Oregon in 1848, for the Napa Valley and many more travels. One of his older daughters, Elizabeth Adams, married Benjamin Cornelius and their son Thomas Ramsey Cornelius, was important in early Oregon history. Town of Cornelius is names after him.
