He was born in 1885 and is married to Mathie and I'm sure that name is wrong. Maybe the transcriber couldn't read it. They have children, Ada, Vivian and William. His nephew, Palmer who was born in 1907 is also living there and it lists his mother as Lizzie Adams. That leads me to beleive she is the sister to John, and not a SIL. Lizzie is pregnant and is listed as a widow. She has another child, Charlie. Not Charles. By 1912 she either gave the boys up or they were taken from her. The papers I have from the Childrens Home in Richmond, Virginia are hard to read. The children are sent via train to a home in Boydton Virginia and lived with this family. They were never adopted or anything, they were used as laborers. I am trying to find this John Adams and his family, or information on Lizzie, Palmer and Charlie. Would love to compare notes with you, as our earliest known ancestor, James was born in around 1800 in TN, and his children were born in NC from 1825-1836, and the later children born in Ray Co MO. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Frances GILLESPIE of Harford, Pennsylvania which was taken at the Bailey & McCausland Normal School Gallery in Mansfield, PA. The photograph is dated "Class of 1896" so I'm guessing that it was taken about that time and that Frances is likely in her teens at the time it was taken. Based on limited research and thanks to the help of a GILLESPIE Family Researcher I was able to gather the following information: Frances J. GILLESPIE b. 16 Feb 1876 in Harford, PA to parents William Thompson GILLESPIE and Mary Ann LESLIE. Census records indicate: 1880 - living in Harford, PA, dau age 4, born PA, parents born PA 1910 - living in Harford, PA, sister age 34 living with brother James R. GILLESPIE 1930 - living in Binghamton, NY, sister-in-law age 54, a Teacher living with brother in law Norman C. ADAMS Frances died 18 Jun 1967 and is buried at the Harford Congregationsal Church Cemetery in Susquehanna Co. PA I'm hoping to locate someone from her family so that this beautiful old photograph can be returned to its rightful place, with family. If you are a member of this GILLESPIE Family, or you if you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

I think? I have just upgrade to the FTM program I hate it, and I have to relay the whole thing from memory so here goes. Nancy Holloway Adams was the Great Aunt of my father. Nancy married a James Adams born 1867 in Missouri was the son of Daniel & Mary Adams both born about 1830 and said to be from TN on census data. This the Nancy you mention. I think may connect to mine a daughter or a likely a niece? I had been trying to run these folks down and sort them out last night. To see this group today on a post was a delight to see. I hope we can help each other work our way through with running them down. My father had mentioned Cape Gerardo Mo as having kin once there but I haven't found them it may work out to be these folks. Aimee it is probably true your group had issues over the war, but what family didn't I suppose. Half of my Holloways went north to Iowa, the rest south to Fulton County, Arkansas. Some fight in the CSA others naming their sons Sherman and Grant. Good clued of disagreement. If they weren't literate and separated by very many miles they would fall apart naturally a well. My Adams group fell away from the my family collective memory. I am trying to pull them back. I would add a genreport but I can figure out this stupid changes to FTM made yet. I will continue lurking in the hope of further leads but I think we will connect. I think age wise my Daniel Adams would be son or Nephew to the William you list. My Daniel has a son William. may also be a clue. See below. Thanks for posting. There are many stories about men who came out here by themselves, found gold, and returned to their families. Some brought their entire families West with the money from the gold. And, of course, some may have died on such a journey. As I recall, one Bailey man returned with a large amount of money and brought all his siblings (including a sibling's spouse who was an Adams) and his father, West. I think he had about $18,000 or so. I hope everyone will try to obtain obits, wills - still can't find my Oregon pioneer's extended family. Sarah Jane Adams Cornelison - born February, 1833 - TN She lived near: Elizabeth Adams Bailey - wife of Isaac Bailey Anna Adams Weaver - born 1806, South Carolina John Adams - born 1774 - Botetourt County, Virginia John Adams, Jr. - born 1809 - Tennessee Henry Adams - born 1828 - Tennessee ------ I know the three Adams men were related. I think all had lived in Taney County, Missouri before leaving for Oregon. Sarah Jane's parents thought to be a John and Matilda but the facts don't seem to support the John/Matilda couples we have found. Elizabeth may have been killed by Indians. Her husband's two brothers were killed by Indians at about the same time she died. She had very young children when she died. Isaac sued the US government for deprivations for the deaths by Indians of his brothers, I am told. Maybe he could not sue on behalf of his wife?
