I was told by my father that I was named after a girlfriend in one of those countries while he was in WW2. My middle name is Dawn and that is, I believe, the girlfriend's name. My uncle (Dad's brother) said that my dad told him that he married a girl over there in either France or Germany. If there was a child or children, we are half siblings and I would like to get to know this part of my family. When dad came home from the war, he met my mom and had us. He is now deceased. I don't know if other countries are on here. Kathie Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: KENNELLYMARKA Surnames: Adams, Classification: death Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.adams/14721/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Gaines Adams, Gaines Adams, GREENWOOD, S.C. (AP) - Gaines Adams, an All-American defensive end at Clemson whose career never blossomed in the NFL with Chicago and Tampa Bay, died Sunday after going into cardiac arrest. He was 26. He died at Self Regional Hospital after going into cardiac arrest about an hour before at his family's home in Greenwood, said Marcia Kelley-Clark, chief deputy coroner for Greenwood County. An autopsy showed an enlarged heart, a condition that can often lead to a heart attack, Kelley-Clark added. She said relatives were unaware of any medical condition. Toxicology tests are being run by the State Law Enforcement Division, though drug use is not suspected. The results probably will not be available for at least two months, Kelley-Clark said. Adams, 6-foot-5 and 258 pounds, spent three seasons in the NFL, two with the Buccaneers and part of this season with the Bears. "He was a true team player and a positive influence to everyone he met," Buccaneers coach Raheem Morris said. Adams was selected fourth overall in the 2007 draft by Tampa Bay. He had not been able to live up to expectations that he would revive the Buccaneers' once-feared pass rush, and had just 17 tackles and one sack in 15 games - 10 with Chicago - this season. He was traded to the Bears in October for a second-round pick in the 2010 draft. "Gaines was a quiet, humble kid and is far too young to be gone," Buccaneers cornerback Ronde Barber said. "He had so much potential that had yet to be achieved." Buccaneers defensive tackle Chris Hovan said he took Gaines under his wing when he came to Tampa Bay. "I considered him my little brother and that's how I will always remember him," he said. "This is all so unreal and it hasn't really hit me yet." "Monday Night Football" analyst Jon Gruden drafted Adams in 2007 while coaching the Buccaneers. He called him a "great teammate" with a "tremendous future." Morris said at the start of training camp that Adams would be considered a "bust" if he didn't reach double digits in sacks. Adams fell short of the benchmark, although he welcomed the challenge. "In football you need that," Adams said in August. "Players tend to get in their own element and do things that they want to do. They need to be called out sometimes. He's the coach. Whatever he says goes." Morris criticized Adams after lackluster performances in the first three games. With the Bears, Adams played brief stints on defense. He made five tackles. Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher told the Chicago Tribune he didn't know Adams well because he arrived during the season. "But I did know him," he said. "I still saw him every day when I went into work. It's just weird." Clemson fans recall Adams' performance in a 2006 victory over Wake Forest in which he broke up a field goal try and returned it for a touchdown. Tommy Bowden, Adams' coach at Clemson, was jolted by news of his death. All-American defensive , Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Moving to Fresno, Ca area in elementary school, Naomi graduated from Sanger High School in Sanger, Ca 1950. This was an eventfull year for Naomi because she also married Reese H. Smith, and their first son, Dennis Michael Smith, was born 9/2/1950. On 2/24/1952 a second son, David Mitchell Smith was born. Naomi and Reese divorced. In the next few years Naomi and the boys were living in San Diego, Ca. where she met Norman J. Brown, married him in 1959. To them a daughter was born, Jaye Michelle Brown on 4/25/1959. 1971 found them all in the Fresno area again where a second daughter was born 4/16/1971 Jamie Rochelle Brown. Naomi and Norman also divorced. Naomi moved back to the San Diego area, where she began her career with Sees Candy. Sometime in the early 1980's Naomi married Dale Rudder, they had no children and divorced within a few years. In 1998-! 99, Naomi once again moved to the Fresno, Ca area where she finally retired from Sees Candy, after 35 years! In November of 2009 Naomi went to Queen Creek, Az to visit her daughter Jamie Brown, where she passed away. Naomi had been living for many years with COPD and a variety of related heart diseases. She was cremated in Mesa, Az., and her cremaines were sent to Fresno, Ca. On 12/4/2009 in the presence of her daughters Jaye and Jamie, and her niece Joan (Smith) Magill, Naomi was interred in the same plot as the ashes of her first son Dennis (who passed 7/6/2005). A graveside memorial was held on 12/5/2009, in the presence of her three remaining children and their families, her niece Joan (Smith) Magill and her family. Her headstone will will be placed next to that of her sons and will read: Naomi Doriece Adams 1/2/33 - 11/17/09 Loving mother of Dennis M. Smith, David M. Smith, Jaye M. Brown and Jamie R. Brown. The family chose to remember her by her maiden name, and show her childrens names, but excluded the married name of Rudder even though she retained it after her divorce, and many of her friends and co-workers knew her by that name. Her death certificate lists her as Naomi Dorice (its Doriece) Rudder. Naomi was the youngest of seven children. She had four children, ten grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren, and many friends throughout her life. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
