    3. No matter what SOME people say there are no STANDARD spellings of names. I use the birth name. Some people use what the person last called themselves.  Several people have tried to correct me when I list variations after my chosen one. There are no standard spellings because most of our people had no need to read & write.  The name was written as it would have been spelled in the priest home area.   The only time I break my rule is when the names were written in Spanish & Latin during the Spanish period in Louisiana You asked about Guedry/Guidry.  The Standard (SAW) spelling is Gue'dry.  I don't think there were many records written that way.  The different branches spell it different!!!  When the MD/Penn Acadians came to Louisiana, The family of JB a Augustin a Claude lost the accent mark over the E. Decendents of both of JB's sons still use the E. THIS IS THE BRANCH YOU ASKED ABOUT. JB brother Pierre kept the accent by using an i.  Most other Louisiana arrivials mostly took the i spelling.  If I am in Claire NS we are Jeddry, Gueddry. On the east coast of NS we may be Labrador. On NB/Maine border we are Jedry, Gedry. Ont & westward & US Midwest we are Labines.  This is dependent on which son we are decendent from. I can give you over a dozen additional spellings. Who many different ways can you spell OU in Ftench? Another example is Boudrot.  In the last week I have been in correspondence with Boudreau, Boudreault, & Boudreaux. Do you want to tell them they have to use the standard spelling!!!!
