Ron Guidry was known as "Louisiana Lighting" (his fast ball exploded from his 5'10", 165 pound frame)) and one year had one of the greatest pitching years in baseball history --25 W and 3L (or so) and an ERA of nominally 1.5. About two years ago a statue of Ron was placed alongside Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig et al in the monument section of Yankee Stadium. His career was meteoric but too short to make it to Cooperstown-perhaps someday. I seem to remember that he was recently hired to be the Yankees pitching coach for 2006-replacing Mel Stottlemyre.
