Monday, November 19, 2001 Acadian fete to feature family theme 250,000 expected at 2004 gala By Susan Bradley / Staff Reporter According to the Halifax, Nova Scotia "THE CHRONICLE-HERALD" in an article by Staff Reporter Susan Bradley published Monday, November 19, 2001, 250,000 people are expected to attend the 2004 gala third annual Congres mondial acadien . The event promises to be a family affair and groups of Acadian families, from southwest Nova Scotia to Cape Breton, will host visitors from Quebec, the other Atlantic provinces, the rest of Canada and the U.S., and other regions of Europe, including France and from all over the world with individual family re-union gatherings. The 16-day Celebration of the Congres Mondial Acadien 2004 will coincide with the 400th anniversary of the deportation of Acadians from Acadia. The opening ceremonies of the Congres is scheduled for Clare and the closing ceremonies and Mass of the Assumption will be celebrated at Grand Pré on August 15, 2004. Because many of the people who will come to Nova Scotia's Acadian communities in 2004 have strong genealogy interests and will be seeking information about their ancestors. Therefore there will be many events centered on genealogical research. More than 35 Acadian Family Associations have been organized with over 600 people involved in the project and the organization committee has already published and distributed more than 150 Family Reunion Manuals.
