Etienne LeBlanc Fort Beausjor NS Aug 1763 to St James LA 1766? Etienne a Rene a Antoine a Daniel Is Fort Beausjor a mispelling of Fort Beausejour or a different place? If so where etc? Any idea how they got to Louisiana three years later? They did not go to SW LA so I don't think they came with Broussards.

Paul, Actually Fort Beausejour is just across the border in New Brunswick. In the list of prisoners at Fort Beausejour (renamed Fort Cumberland by the British) on 24 August 1763 is found: Etienne le Blanc Yzabelle idem Simon Etienne Mathurin joseph Anne Margueritte Magdelaine ----- 9 Source: Microfilm of Archives Nationales de France, Archives des Colonies, C 12 1, folios 22-26. The first records of Etienne Le Blanc in Louisiana are found in ADNOSR v. 2 1751-1771, p. 177: LE BLANC, Joseph (Estienne and Elisabeth BEAUDREAU) baptised Dec. 8, 1765, born July 19, 1762, sponsers Michel BOUGEOIS amd Margueritte BOURGUE (SLC, B5, 110). LE BLANC, Marie Marthe Elisabeth (Estienne and Elisabeth BEAUDREAU) baptised Dec. 8, 1765, born April 15 [1765?], sponsers Joseph Mereau amd Elisabet SANS CHANCH[*]GREN (SLC, B5, 110). Since most Acadians wanted their children baptised by the first priest avalable and since Etienne was still in New Orleans, it would seem he had just recently arrived. Therefore, it is likely he came in tbe third group of Acadians to arrive in Louisiana. This group was led by Philippe Lachausee, arrived in New Orleans in October and November 1765, and settled in Cabanocey. Etienne also settled fairly far upriver (land would be in Ascension Parish in 1770 census) again indicating his late arrival. Roger A. Rozendal rogroz@swbell.net
