Stanley & List, There were undoubtedly two couples where a Joseph LANDRY was married to a Madeleine LE BLANC in Louisiana. Their records are found in the Baton Rouge Diocese, CATHOLIC CHURCH RECORDS. I) The first involved your ancestors' daughter Marie Madeleine LE BLANC, daughter of Etienne LE BLANC & Elisabeth BOUDROT (SAW Dictionnaire p. 203). She was born near Miramichi, Canada on 7 Apr 1758, according to a posting on this list on 21 Aug 2002 by N. F. Carnahan. She married Joseph (dit Dios) LANDRY, son of Abraham (dit Petit Abram) LANDRY II (SAW Dict. p. 933) & Marguerite FLAN (SAW Dict. p. 619), on 23 Sep 1778 [as corrected] at St. James Catholic Church, St. James, Louisiana (SJA-1, 47). They had four children I can trace, baptized in Ascension Parish at Donaldsonville, from 1778 to 1783. Joseph died there at age 27 years, and was buried on 8 Jan 1784 (ASC-1, 191b). He apparently had been born during his parents' exile in Maryland. His widow remarried twice: 2nd to Henri ROBICHAUD on 8 Sep 1787 (ASC-2, 9). There were four more children before he died in Apr 1799. She then married 3rd to Jacques LAMOTHE II on 31 Jan 1803. They had a daughter around 1803. II) The other couple were Joseph Athanase LANDRY, born in Acadia, son of Pierre LANDRY II (SAW Dictionnaire p. 934) & Marie BABIN (SAW Dict. p. 61). He 1st married Madeleine Marguerite LE BLANC (whose parents I hope to have SAW identify in the next volumes). They had at least two children, twins born in St. Gabriel, Iberville Parish, LA. The curious thing is that the Baton Rouge Diocese, CATHOLIC CHURCH RECORDS, vol. 2, p. 437 gives two different dates for their births. Margarite Polonie [LANDRY], daughter of Joseph & Margarite LEBLANC, was born 13 Mar 1773, and baptized 22 Apr 1773 (SGA-4a, 1). Her brother and twin Joseph Denat [LANDRY] was born the next day--14 Mar 1773--and baptized on same day and in same record as his sister. I suppose the births could have occurred near midnight, and spanned two days? This Madeleine LE BLANC (sometimes called Marguerite) died sometime before 25 Nov 1781, when her husband Joseph LANDRY, widower of Magdalena LEBLANC, married Magdalena BABEIN (ASC-1, 143), daughter of Germain BABIN (SAW Dict. p. 62) & Marguerite LANDRY (SAW Dict. p. 930). She was the widow of Charles BABIN. They had three more children born before she died in 1812. He may be the Joseph Athanse [sic] LANDRY, age 40 years [sic], who was buried 28 May 1815 (SGA-8, 73). I hope this clears up some of the confusion. Karen Theriot Reader KATheriot@aol.com
