It seems that Jean-Baptiste Cormier, fils, the oldest child of Jean- Baptiste, pere, was separated from his family during the Grand Derangement. While his parents and siblings were sent to Georgia in 1755, Jean-Baptiste, fils, [age 21] escaped deportation and remained in Acadia. In the 9 August 1761 Acadian Coast list of prisoners[4] is found: Jean Cormier – 1 [Jean-Baptiste Cormier age 26] In the 12 August 1763 Halifax list of prisoners[5] is found: Jean Batis Cormaie [Jean-Baptiste Cormier, fils age 28]. No wife or children are listed, one of only three single entries on the list. Jean-Baptiste came to Louisiana with Joseph Broussard where in April 1765, he received a receipt[6] for 692 livres in billetes in Canadian money. Jean-Baptiste shortly after arrival in Louisiana may have gone to be united with his family because: In the 29 June 1766 Cabaanocé Lower Coast census[7] is found: [Jean-Baptiste] Cormier man age 60 Madeleine [Richard] woman age 57 [Jean-Baptiste] fils man age 30 Marianne girl age 19 Marguerite girl age 16 Annassetazie girl age 14 Unfortunately, no 1769 census has been found to date covering the area of the 1766 Cabaanocé Lower Coast census. The next available census for this area is the 1 January 1777 St. James Parish census. Jean-Baptiste Cormier, fils, 1768 married Marguerite Bourg, born 1749, daughter of Joseph Bourg[8] and Marie Landry[9]. They lived along the Mississippi River until at least 12 November 1775 (baptism of son, Jean-Baptiste[10]), but after that moved to Attakapas. In the 4 May 1777 Attakapas census[11] is found: Family #73 Jean-Baptiste Cormier age 35 [sic] Marguerite Bourg, his wife age 28 Jean-Baptiste, son age 2 Natasie, daughter age 8 Isabele, daughter age 6 Marie, daughter age 4 [1] Reider Milton and Reider, Norma Acadian church records v. 2 p. 44.
