    3. Twas Months before Christmas and in Government House all through the chefs were stirring- the table set for quite a few There were lobster rolls, chicken fricot, rapure, and meat pies Doughnuts, biscuits, and sugar cookies did more than tempt the eyes. Welcome to a Christmas feast at Fanningbrook, the residence of P.E.I.'s Lt. Gov. Leonce Bernard and Florence Bernard. And don't be surprised to see Her Honour whipping up those Acadian treats in the Kitchen. In fact Canadian Living magazine recently visited the Bernards for a special look at An Acadian Christmas Eve, featuring the Bernard family, their historic residence, and Florence's traditional Acadian food. Food editor Elizabeth Baird calls the eight page spread an intimate glimpse at one of Canada's first families. Not to mention it is chalk full of mouth watering recipes to make a Governor's feats of one's own. Baird says good cooks, interesting people, Acadian Culture, and the setting in Canada's smallest province all gave it the makings of a good story. It was a fabulous experience, Baird said. Ii was very impressed by the fact that Her Honour was such a devoted cook. there was such pride in the food that reflected their family and their culture and their life generally. As Baird explained Florence Bernard still enjoys the kitchen. The feature is in the December issue of Canadian Living, photos by John Sylvester, holiday decor by Beatrice Caillie, and hair and make up by Ginette Arsenault. Additional photos are available at Canadian Living Website at www.canadianliving.com from Journal Pioneer 19 Nov 2003, page 1 & 3 look forward to it James
