Before leaving the subject of Firmin Landry (which has been discussed extensively), it is interesting to note in the 7 Jul 1763 census at Oxford, Maryland, the following contiguous listings (Jehn "Acadian Exiles in the Colonies" pp. 143-144): Firmin Landry, Elizabeth son Espouse, Joseph et Saturin Landry, Eleine et Magd.ne Landry ...........5 Marie Babin Veuve, Charles Babain, Eufreme et Marie Josephe Babin, Brigitte et Anne Babin, Veuve Anne Babin, Joseph et Jacques Babin, Marg.te Babin ....10 Charles Babin, Marie Landry Veuve, Anne et Elizabeth Landry, Marg.te et Genevieve Landry .....6 Ursule Babin, Veuve et Marie Babin, Marg.te et Anne Babin .....5 Rene Landry, Marie son Espouse, Marg.te et Marin Landry, Felicite et Olivier Landry, Joseph et Firmin Landry ...... 8 As will be seen, these make up a tight knit family grouping. The results of my research are as follows: Firmin Landry, b. ca 1727, probably son of Alexandre Landry & Marie-Marguerite Blanchard (White p. 930). w) Francoise dit Elizabeth Thibodeau, b. ca ?, possibly daughter of Charles Thibodeau & Brigitte Breau (White p. 1518). Died before 1769. a) Joseph Landry, b. ca 1752 (Married ca 1778 Marie Melanson, daughter of Paul Melanson & Marie Theriot-Hebert v. 1A p. 477). b) Saturnin Landry, b. ca 1754 (No record of a marriage, died after 1777). c) Helene Landry, b. ca 1750 (Married 15 Jul 1771 Amand Broussard, son of Joseph Broussard & Agnes Thibodeau- DOBRCCR v. 2 p. 427). d) Marie-Madeleine Landry, b. ca 1756 (Married 12 Jun 1775 Rene Broussard, son of Joseph Broussard & Anastasie LeBlanc- Hebert v. 1A p. 480). No record of how Firmin came to Louisiana has been found, but after 7 Jul 1763 and before 1769 Francoise dit Elizabeth Thibodeau died, Firmin came to Louisiana, married Theotiste Thibodeau, widow of Bonaventure Gaudin, and settled in Attakapas where in the 1769 census (exact date unknown) is found: Firmen Landry 42 His Wife (Theotiste Thibodeau) Joseph his son 17 Saturnin his son 15 Elena his daughter 19 Magdeleyna his daughter 13 Barbe his daughter 8 (sic: Barbe Gaudin, step-daughter) I have found the lists of immigrants from Maryland to be only those that went to St. Gabriel and Natchez. There is no list of those who settled directly in Cabanocey. Marie Landry, b. ca 1736, possibly daughter of Alexandre Landry? & Marie-Marguerite LeBlanc? (White p. 930), married Paul Babin, son of Jean Babin & Marguerite Boudrot (White p. 62). Paul died before 7 Jul 1763. (No record of Marie in Louisiana). a) Charles Babin, b. ca 1742 (Married Madeleine Babin, b. ca 1745, 1769 census Cabanocey #159). b) Eufreme Babin b. ca 1745, (Married 8 Apr 1768 Marguerite Leblanc, b. ca 1746, daughter of Jacques LeBlanc & Catherine-Josephe Forest, 1769 census Cabanocey #160). c) Marie-Josephe Babin b. ca 1747 (Married Silvain LeBlanc, b. ca 1741, son of Jacques LeBlanc & Catherine-Josephe Forest, 1769 census Cabanocey #77). d) Brigitte Babin b. ca 1750 (1769 census Cabanocey #160, with brother Eufreme). e) Anne Babin (No record in Louisiana). Anne Theriot, b. 19 Jan 1721, daughter of Jacques Theriot & Marie-Marguerite Leblanc (White p. 1504) married ca 1742 Joseph Babin b. ca ?, son of Jean Babin & Marguerite Boudrot (White p. 62). Jean-Baptiste died before 7 Jul 1763. (1769 census Cabanocey Anne with son Joseph #158). a) Joseph Babin b. ca 1745 (1769 census Cabanocey #158). b) Jacques Babin, b. ca 1747 (1769 census Cabanocey #163). c) Marguerite Babin, b. ca 1749 (Married 28 Jun 1768 Francois Dugas, b. ca 1741, son of Jean Dugas & Marie-Charlotte Godin, 1769 census Cabanocey #54). Charles Babin (I have not yet figured out his relationship in among all these Babins and Landrys) Marie (Marguerite) Blanchard, b. ca 1705, daughter of Martin Blanchard & Francoise LeBlanc (White p. 145) married ca 1744 Alexandre Landry, b. ca 1695, son of Germain Landry & Marie Melanson (White p. 930). Alexandre died before 7 Jul 1763. (No record of Marie-Marguerite reaching Louisiana). a) Anne Landry, b. ca 1736 (Married Mathurin Landry, b. 15 May 1733, son of Abraham Landry & Elizabeth Leblanc (White p. 933), 1769 census Cabanocey #57) b) Elizabeth Landry, b. ca 1738 (1770 census Ascension #45 with sister Marie-Josephe, b. ca 1734 & husband Etienne Landry, b. ca 1734). c) Marguerite Landry b. ca 1730 (No record in Louisiana). d) Genevieve Landry b. ca 1744 (Married Joseph Godin dit Lincour, b. ca 1740, son of Joseph Godin & Marie-Anne Bergeron (White p. 748), 1769 census Cabanocey #66). Steven White confirms that Marie-Marguerite Blanchard, mother of Firmin, was in Oxford, Md as a widow on 7 Jul 1763 at the same time and place as Firmin Landry (White p. 145). It also confirms that Elizabeth Landry, sister of Firmin, was also in Oxford on the same date. Therefore, the "Elizabeth son espouse" with Firmin can not be his sister. I realize the above does not agree with what Gregory Wood in "Acadians in Maryland" p. 80 has on this family. I think he is partially in error. See more on this later in this post under "Rene Landry". Ursule Landry, b. ca 1724, daughter of Alexandre Landry & Marie-Marguerite Blanchard (White p. 930), married Jean-Baptiste Babin, b. ca ?, son of Jean Babin & Marguerite Boudrot (White p. 62). Jean-Baptiste died before 7 Jul 1763. (In 1769 census Cabanocey Ursule is listed with her son Joseph Babin in Family #81). a) Marie-Josephe Babin b. ca 1750 (1769 census Cabanocey listed with brother Joseph and mother in Family #81). b) Marguerite Babin, b. ca 1752 (1769 census Cabanocey listed with brother Joseph and mother in Family #81). c) Anne-Barbe b. ca 1756 (1770 census Ascension #46 with brother Joseph). Rene Landry b. ca 1716, son of Abraham Landry & Marie-Anne Guilbeau (White p. 933) married 18 Feb 1737 Marie Theriot, daughter of Jacques Theriot & Marguerite LeBlanc (White 1504). Rene was an uncle of Firmin Landry. Marie Theriot died before the 1769 Cabanocey census. (Before then, Rene married Anne Landry, b. ca 1732, daughter of Abraham Landry & Marie-Isabelle Blanchard (White p. 930) who was a first cousin of Firmin Landry. 1769 census Cabanocey #140). a) Marguerite Landry, b. ca 1744 (No record in Louisiana). b) Marin Landry b. ca 1749 (1769 census Cabanocey #139) c) Felicite b. ca 1750 (Married 5 Feb 1768 Charles Melanson, son of Jean-Baptiste & Madeleine Leblanc. 1769 census Cabanocey #142). d) Olivier Landry b. ca 1752 (1769 census Cabanocey #138). e) Joseph Landry b. ca 1757 (1769 census Cabanocey #140 with father). f) Firmin Landry b. ca 1760 (1769 census Cabanocey #140 with father). This has gotten a bit complex, hope I haven't introduced too manny errors. >From all of this I have concluded that: 1) The parents of Firmin Landry are probably Alexandre Landry & Marie-Marguerite Blanchard. 2) The Elizabeth listed with Firmin is not his sister, she was also in Oxford on 7 Jul 1763 with their mother. 3) Most of this close knit family group went to Louisiana in 1767 or 1768 and settled in Cabanocey. 4) The exception was Firmin who married Theotiste Thibodeau (probably in Cabanocy) and settled in Attakapas where her siblings lived.
