In the last part of September, I was able to spend 10 days in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Flew back out of Halifax last Friday morning before Juan struck on Saturday. Beautiful weather when we left. I was able to spend time in the Public Archives of Nova Scotia in Halifax and at Centre d'Études Acadiennes in Moncton, New Brunswick. I was able to get copies from microfilms of the original documents for the following material: 1) 1760 List of Inhabitants in Ristigouche - 160 families of 1003 individuals (Acadians who had escaped deportation, mostly in present day New Brunswick). 2) July 1761 List of Acadian Families along the Coast of Acadia (202 families of 794 individuals). 3) Lists of Prisoners at Fort Edward 1761-1762 (October 5, 1761, July 12, 1762, August 9, 1762, October 11, 1762). 4) 12 August 1763 List of Prisoners at Halifax. 5) 24 August 1763 List of Prisoners at Fort Cumberland (Fort Beausejour). 6) 1763 List of Acadians at Port Royal (19 families and 14 single men totaling 92 individuals) (this is a list of Acadians quartered at Port Royal who seem to have been hired by the British settlers to maintain the dikes. Among them were Augustin Guidry and Pierre Hebert who came to Louisiana with Joseph Broussard. I knew they had to be in Acadia in 1763, but had been unable to locate them before). I also visited all the imprisonment sites and talked to the resident historians at each. Not too busy this time of year so they were able to spend substantial time with me. At the Centre d'Études Acadiennes in Moncton, New Brunswick, I was able to get some good material, but I had one great disappointment. I was unable to speak to Stephen White. He had had an operation on his eyes and was out of the office until the middle of October. I now have a great amount of material to digest, but I think it will be a great help in determining the Acadians that came to Louisiana with Joseph Broussard and that composed the other two groups that came in 1765, most of whom were in Acadia in 1763.
