Augie has CMT CHARCOT MARIE TOOTH SYNDROME. It is Named for the 3 French docs that found it. it is caused from the mylar coating leaving the nerve endings.   Augie has CAVUS foot as a result of CMT. he had 1st surgery in early May. the 2nd surgery on left foot near 1st of sept. Healing takes so long, due to what all, the doc had to do. From his heel bone, the inner part, they removed a bit of bone. then doc stretched the tendons and re-aligned the bones in his feet. the arch of his foot had been extremely high. this now, has given Augie normal feet. that is if you don't count the screws and nuts & bolts & washers in them. they sent us the Xrays:) we were blessed to have found a doc to fix'im up, and God gave me the strength those 6 months he was flat of his back, to take care of him:)! all told healing takes a full yr. but right now he is walking tall and straight. and has a job painting, which is his line of work:) btw the doc soon as he looked at augies' feet, knew it was CMT., even before he'd taken e-rays!! so that too, was a blessing huh i'd really appreciate, you passing this on to others via our genealogy lists and please post it on your home page it may help them too. at 1st, after finding he had CMT, he was tol to expect a wheelchair in his near future. My uncle, now in his eighties, was diagnosed with Charcot Marie Tooth (CMT) Syndrome about 12 -15 years or so ago. It manifests iself, for him, in his left leg, which is greatly weakened and essentially collapses on him. When he was diagnosed his doctor suggested he advise his nephews that it is an Acadian genetic heritage disease. I also recall reading about a Seminar at Nicholls University in Thibodaux, La, toipic being Acadian Genetic diseases of which CMT was one. Best wishes to Augie.
