    3. In South Lafourche Parish the word is still used today. I am told that it is an abbreviation for a term used to indicate African-American heritage, but the word is not, and as far as my memory takes me, was never used in a derogatory manner. As a matter of fact, just the opposite. It is used, usually by men, to refer to other men-friends, just as they use "beb" for women. I, too, remember several young men who went by the nickname, Tee Neg. Maybe my definition is wrong? I'd like to be straightened out by those of you who are more familiar with the Cajun dialect.
