    1. [Acadian-Cajun] BREAU/BREAU marriage
    2. Thanks to those who attempted to answer my question, as below (note that I mixed up which Church had which details in my first note, but the records are correct): "There appear to be two separate records for the marriage of Marie Madeleine BREAU & Honore BREAU (who were only 3rd cousins) on the same day of 18 Jan 1773. One is in the parish of St. James Catholic Church (SJA-1, 44), which does give her parents, the other in Ascension Catholic Church (ASC-1, 122), and gives only his parents. Both are found in Baton Rouge Diocese, Catholic Church Records, vol. 2, pp. 146, 149 & 150. Honore BRAUD, son of Alexi & Marie TRAHAN of Acadia, married on 18 Jan 1773 to Magdalena BRAUD, daughter of Jean Baptiste & Marie Rose LANDRY. Witnesses: Paul BRAUD; Michael BERTONVILLE. Recorded at Ascension Catholic Church, Donaldsonville, LA (ASC-1, 122). Honnoré BRO, son of Alexis & Marie TRHAM [sic], married on 18 Jan 1773 to Magdelaine BRAUD of LaFourche Parish (parents not given). Witnesses not given. Recorded at St. James Catholic Church, St. James, LA (SJA-1, 44). Any ideas why it would appear in both parishes on the same day?" The best answer was posited by Terry, and upon reflection I agree. Since the Ascension Church record is most complete, giving witnesses, as well as the names of both sets of parents, I believe the marriage actually took place there, probably the bride's parish. The groom may have belonged to St. James Parish, and the priest there noted his marriage, but was not aware of all the details, such as witnesses and bride's parents' names, but did have the date. Logical? The couple lived their lives in St. James Parish, where their children were baptized. 3. Morning, Just a thought - could it be that the banns were published in both as well, but the ceremony took place in her church?
