Hello everyone, I was just browsing a message I was originally drafting in response to Stanley and noticed his mention of Arkansas and a Joseph Kebed dit Quebec. Last nite I was browsing and ran across a Google Books link titled "The Spanish Regime in Missouri: A Collection of Papers and Documents" by Louis Houck published in 1909. In one of the lists of persons (from 1791, I believe) it lists a widow "Marianna Quebec". In notes it identifies her as "Marianna Quebec, nee Langevin", the daughter of Jean Baptiste Langevin dit Baquette and having married Joseph Quebec. That said, it would appear they'd be too young to have been the parents of Charles Quebedeau of Illinois. Will be interested to see what Stanley is able to dig up. Neal, Kebed [Keved] was a corruption of Quebec. The line was at Arkansas - some ended up at Opelousas/Attakapas. The progenitor was Barthelemy [Barthelemi] Quebec who married Marguerite, an Indian of the Cances Nation. One of their sons was Joseph, but he was born in 1793. This wasn't the Quebedeaux line. I recently obtained the Abstract of Catholic Register of Arkansas [1764-1858] that was compiled and edited by Dorothy Jones Core. Many of the surnames at Arkansas ended up at Opelousas, Attakapas and other parts of LA [ Examples include: Menard, Peltier, Lavergne, Coussat, Babey, Billet, Dardenne, D'Artz (Dartez), D'Hauterive, Imbeau, Lambert, Lefevre, Lepine, Michel, Perthuis, Saucier]. By the way, Missouri as used in the Houck book covered more than just present-day Missouri - it includes Arkansas, Illinois and parts of Indiana. A while back, I posted that I had an extra copy of a CD that has the 6 volumes of the Missouri Genealogical Records & Abstracts Series. This is a very valuable CD for the serious researcher. V.1 covers 1766-1839; V.2 covers 1752-1839; V. 3 covers 1787-1839; V. 4 covers 1741-1839; V. 5 covers 1755-1839 and V. 6 covers 1621-1839. The CD costs less than one of the hard-cover volumes.
