Don & List: According to the dispensation dated 5 Feb 1798 for the marriage of Michel DUGAS & Madeleine BABIN, the parents of the bride's father Amant BABIN were Germain BABIN & Marguerite LANDRY. This was transcribed, with some apparent errors, in: Shirley Chaisson Bourquard, MARRIAGE DISPENSATIONS IN THE DIOCESE OF LOUISIANA AND THE FLORIDAS; 1786-1803; p. 23. I will give it as published: "February 5, 1798 Miguel Duga, age 22 and single, a native of the parish of Our Lady of Ascension of Lafourche requests dispensation to marry Magdalena Babin of the same parish. They are related in the third grade. He is the son of Francisco Duga and Margarita Babin, [she is] daughter of Ana Teriot and Juan [sic, probably Joseph] Babin, [who is] son of Juan Babin and Margarita Como [sic, probably Boudrot]. Margarita [sic, must mean bride Magdalena] Babin is the daughter of Anastacia Landry and Amant Babin, [who is] son of Margarita Landry and Germain Babin, [who is] son of Juan Babin and Margarita Como [sic, probably Boudrot]. Margarita [sic] has no mother and her father is poor and has seven children aged from three to sixteen years. Witnesses Pedro Landry of Lafourche, aged 45 and Gregoria Carlot of Lafourche, aged 23 who also swore to the above. Granted." The parents of Marie Anastasie LANDRY are given in Gregory A. Wood, A GUIDE TO THE ACADIANS IN MARYLAND IN THE EIGHTEENTH AND NINETEENTH CENTURIES; 1755-1899; Baltimore, Gateway Press, 1995; p. 135. Marie Anastasie LANDRY was listed in a household of 12 persons in Oxford, MD in 1763, with her father Abraham LANDRY & his wife Marguerite (née FLAN). On 14 Jan 1766 (with dispensation given for 2nd & 3rd degree relationship), she was married by Rev. Joseph MOSLEY, on the Eastern Shore of MD, to Amant BABIN; witnesses Firmin & Saturin LANDRY. She is listed on the 1769, 1770, and 1777 censuses in LA. She was buried on 19 Aug 1795 at Ascension Catholic Church (ASC-4, 19), age 48. Karen Theriot Reader KATheriot@aol.com
