Hi everyone, A couple of things. I made a change in our list settings today. I switched to reply to the list rather than the person when you hit reply. To send a response to a person instead of the list you will need delete the list name and paste and copy in the person's email address. This is being done to help encourage conversation on the list and to help those who so often after posting receive two copies of messages. More and more lists at RootsWeb have been changing to this system. If after a fair trial I feel it's it's not in the list's best interest I will change it back. I do think this is a good way for lists to work. I hope it doesn't stop people from replying to others. We valve everyone's imput on family lines and opinions. The only way this can be overided by you is if you have your email set up in the "reply to" field. That will always overide RootsWeb. It's under tools then account then property link if you have Outlook Express. That field should be empty unless you want people to reply to an address different than the one you are using. Also please check your email settings under options, and then "send" link. Make sure that the box is unchecked next to please add to address book anyone I reply to. This protects many and stops your mailbox being full with a lot of unwanted addresses. This brings me to the main reason for writing today. I usually try to avoid the virus debates on lists I admin. But I feel a reminder is needed to all. Please be sure to have virus protection on your computer. Also it is highly recommended to have Firewall protection if you surf the net. When a virus hits a computer, one thing it does is grabs addresses out of email boxes. It then forges the addresses and sends itself all over. Most people don't realize that the name that is in the From slot is 99.9 % of the time an innocent person with a clean computer. Sometimes they don't go to the address book, one not to long ago skipped the mailbox and grabbed messages that were in the inbox. It would be great if everyone spent just a couple of moments reading Rootsweb's tutorial on viruses/worms: http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/virus.html Consider browsing and joining if you have virus questions Virus-Discussion-L. http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/other/Internet_Help/VIRUS-DISCUSSION.html Please keep your virus protection updated!! I have been personally bombarded by attacks. Over 800 two days ago. My Norton showed only 15 attacks so far today. Please Please everyone, do your part to protect yourself and others. Thank you, Margy List Admin.
