To all asking about Juan - I live in Halifax and was lucky enough to have my power restored today (Tuesday), but it is still out in many areas. However, phone connection, thus computer connection, still unstable. Three deaths in the city as a result of falling trees, one a paramedic who perished when a tree fell on his truck. Many people depending on candles for light and those with propane barbques using them as their only source of heat for cooking food etc. Basics like milk etc. in short supply as it has spoiled in fridges due to lack of power, both in homes and stores. Also, store shelves empty of things like bread, peanut butter etc. as many people depending on meals that do not require heat preparation. Many old historic trees have toppled, some dramatic sights as trees with roots 15' across and more toppled down revealing remains of old brick sidewalks. May homes have major structural damage, broken windows, smashed roofs where trees fell on them, water damage from torn shingles etc etc. My own street looked like a war zone as huge trees block the road, and had a close call when huge tree in neighbouring yard fell away from my house - and thankfully missed neighbours house - would have demolished either if it had made direct contact. The federal government has provided 600 military personnel to assist with the cleanup. Trees, branches etc. everywhere. However, we have to say a prayer of thanks, sure could have been worse. A special thanks to all the power corp. linemen who worked round the clock. They did an outstanding job in restoring as much power as they have so quickly. Also, to the EMO workers, they all did a marvelous job. For those trying to contact friends and family, one thing to consider - if they were using cable company etc for their phone service, they may not have been able to receive phone calls as naturally cable companies had no power - just a thought. Cable companies have power restored now so try later this evening. ----- Original Message ----- From: <ACADIAN-CAJUN-D-request@rootsweb.com> To: <ACADIAN-CAJUN-D@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, September 30, 2003 3:00 PM Subject: ACADIAN-CAJUN-D Digest V03 #279 --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
