    3. SAW p 116 shows the marriage rehabilitation for François Benoit (31) at Trois Rivières on Sept. 27, 1766. François was the son of my 6th G-G-Parents Claude Benoit and Jeanne Hebert. He had married Françoise-Marguerite Daigre while in exile on Feb. 4, 1761. According to PRDH record # 214044 this marriage rehabilitation is dated Sept. 20, 1766. I did not find the rehabilitation listed in the "Répertoire des Mariages de Trois Rivières (1654-1900)" available at my local research center. Both these sources are the work of highly qualified researchers and I am uncertain as to how I should approach this problem. Any ideas? 3. Could the earlier one be a marriage contract date or civil ceremony and the later the actual religious ceremony? 3. Not a bad idea Paul, however the PRDH has a special document type for marriage contracts and they also show the notary's name. Fran's idea that SAW goes to the originals if available suggests to me that both research teams used two different official sources. Here in Québec, parishes always made two copies of each act. One copy was kept in the parish register while the other was sent to the court house. I suspect that SAW consulted a copy saved in the parish register, while the PRDH most likely used the court house copy for their project. I have a Family Sheet from the CIC in Saint John and right beside the marriage date for one of my ancesters, the lady doing my family sheet wrote the word "habilitation" with a question mark. I wonder if there is any connection between these two words: (rehabilitation and habilitation). George.
