I came across a series of interesting documents in the Cuban Papers and thought I'd share it with the list. They have to do with an investigation into the death of Joseph Hebert, a resident of New Feliciana. It seems that he got into a barroom brawl with Firmin Dupuis, a resident of Lafourche. Hebert died 15 days after the fight. There are a lot of proceedings, letters, testimony, and even a letter from Dupuis' mother, Ana de Pui, residing at Iberville, to the governor dated 2 Aug. 1787. One witness to the fight, Michel Braud, said it looked as though Hebert had the advantage. There are many documents scattered throughout the Legajo (200) and I didn't have time to read them all. But, if anyone is interested in following up on it, some of the folio numbers I noted were 460-461, 468-471, 552, 572, and 733. Judy Riffel Baton Rouge, LA
