It wasn't ignorance on the part of the officials. The Acadians were forced upon the Colonies. The main problem was that the Acadians were supposed to be British Subjects but were prisoners of war although the officials refused to treat them as prisoners of war since this would have required them to provide shelter, food, clothing, etc. There were other indentured servants at that time, but these were persons who had "voluntarily" agreed to pay for passage, shelter and food and learning a trade as an "indentured" servant. The Acadians were forcibly removed from their land and exiles.
