Ft. Toulouse was in Alabama, not Mississippi! There is an interesting story re Ft. Toulouse. In Some Late Eighteenth Century Louisianians, Jacqueline Voorhies used a document that had been incorrectly filed in a 1758 folder to provide a list of Acadian Farmers at Ft. Toulouse, Alabama in 1755. This led to the incorrect conclusion that Acadians were in LA as early as 1755. The list was actually made about 1716 for Ft. Toulouse, Cape Breton. See my corrections page at http://www.thecajuns.com/correct.htm The French at Ft. Toulouse, AL went to Mobile and then to Opelousas in 1764. Some of the names were Brignac, Bonin, Fontenot, Fusilier. Most of the French in MS [Ft. Toulouse] and those in Mobile moved into Louisiana [Opelousas] in 1764. This could explain how some Acadians who weren't with the 1765 Broussard group got to Opelousas. Hi Stanley, Anymore French names from Ft. Toulouse? I have a Louis Simar that got married in St-Landry. Opelousas on Nov. 18, 1788 to Marie-Rose Trahan, an Acadian. This Simar was born in Charlevoix, Qc and I wonder how he got there. Was he in a Militia or an adventurer? Thank you and my best regards, Paul Simard ----- Original Message ----- From: "Stanley LeBlanc" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, January 31, 2006 8:59 PM Subject: [ACADIAN-CAJUN] Correction re Location of Ft.
