The main sources of information for this area are (1) "St. Martin Parish History", by Betty Pourciau, Curtis Media, 1985 [available at most South Louisiana parish libraries] and (2) "Southwest Louisiana Records-CD #101", by Donald J. Hebert, 2001(?) [available for sale]. ----- Original Message ----- | Anastasie GUIDRY, daughter of Pierre and Marguerite (peggy) MILLER, | married David REES, from Pennsylvania, 9 Jan 1805-St Martinville. I | have |been told they had 12 children, but the only one I have is | Henry, b abt 1821. ===================== Henry REES was one of 13 children, born May 6, 1815 [see (1), p 236, where all children are listed]. | He married Aspasie CASTILLE, 14 sept 1842, St Martinville. First | big |question: Who were Aspasie Castille's parents? and anything | further back, if | anyone has it. ====================== Aspasie Laure CASTILLE was born August 2, 1824, the 4th child of 17 children, of Joseph Gervais CASTILLE and Marie Celeste LEBLANC [See(1), p 138, where there is information much further back on the CASTILLEs to the Isle of Minorca]. | Henry and Aspasie had at least 4 children. Their daughter, Nanette | Victorie Rees..... ====================== Marie Victorie REES was born Sept 2, 1845, the 2nd of 10 children, according to (1), p 237. | 1) She seems to have married someone named Polk, probably abt 1866. | 2) On 8 sept 1870 she married Joseph Musso from Italy...... | 3) In the 1880 census she is married to a man named Manuel | SEVIACHIE, from Greece. ======================= She married Jules Joseph POLK from New Orleans June 11, 1866 {see (1), p 237, where the MUSSO marriage is given as 1870}. The SEVIACHIE marriage was not confirmed, but another, different marriage was found with Peter MURPHY, 6 Aug 1895, from (2), the SWLR-CD . The rest of the request deals with late 19th century questions, where church data stops, and research requires a variety of approaches, such as checking of Parish records, looking at contemporary newspapers, U.S. Census of 1900, cemetery records, etc. I hope this has been helpful--- Carl HUVAL Vicksburg, Mississippi U.S.A.
