The size of the United States doubled overnight with the La. Purchase and 13 states were carved out of Colonial Louisiana. This year is the 200th Anniversary of the La. Purchase and there are many activities underway in Louisiana and Arkansas. The Arkansas Post near the intersection of the Arkansas and Mississippi Rivers was one of the earliest settlements of Colonial Louisiana.
