Good Evening Roger, Once again you have come through for all the rest of us. I do appreciate your time and help. Has anyone been able to identify the parents of Marie LANDRY? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Andy Scott The parents of Marie Landry were Joseph Landry (White p. 919) and his first wife, Marguerite Forest. Olivier Landry, her brother, was a wtness at her wedding to François Savoie on July 22, 1765. Olivier was one of the group of 21 Acadians who arrived in Louisiana from Georgia in February 1764, the first Acadians in Louisiana. Below is what I have on François Savoie, including his marriage to Marie Landry. Roger A. Rozendal SAVOIE, FRANCOIS François Savoie, born 1731, was the son of Charles Savoie[1][1] and Françoise Martin[2][2]. François married 1760 Anne Aucoin, born 13 July, 1739[3][3], daughter of Martin Aucoin[4][4] and Elisabeth Boudrot[5][5]. This family was deported to Pennsylvania where on a prisoner list dated 20 June 1763 is found[6][6]: Franois Scavoy, Anne Scavoy his wife with two children [François Savoie age 32 Anne Aucoin age 24 Marguerite born 16 February 1763 Child, name unknown] In the Fall of 1764, this family went to Santo Domingo where Anne Aucoin was buried 5 August 1764. The two children probably also died there. François arrived in Louisiana sometime before his 22 July 1765 remarriage to Marie Landry. SAVOYE [sic for Savoie], Francois, native of Annapolis Royal, St. Charles Parish, in Acadia, Diocese of Quebec, widower of Anne Aucoin, married Marie LANDRY, July 22, 1765, witness Olivier LANDRY (SLC, B5, 188 & M2, 19)[7][7] Marie Landry daughter of Joseph Landry[8][8] & Marguerite Forest[9][9], and her first husband, Joseph Bourg[10][10], son of Alexandre Bourg & Marguerite Melanson, were listed as prisoners in Pennsylvania on June 20, 1763[11][11]. They probably went to St. Domingue in late 1764 like many others from Pennsylvania and Joseph may have died there. Marie Landry and her children came to Louisiana sometime before her July 22, 1765 marriage to François Savoie. However, she did not live long as she is not in the 29 June 1766 Cabanocey Lower census and François Savoie remarried[12][12] 5 October 1766 to Marie Thibodeau, daughter of Paul Thibodeau[13][13] and Marguerite Trahan[14][14]. Anne also did not live long after this marriage as her Succession is dated 19 August 1769 and Franois Savoie married again 22 August 1769 to Marie Martin, daughter of Ambroise Martin[15][15] and Émilienne Comeau[16][16]. On 5 July 1776, Nicolas Cantrelle, acting commandant of Cabanocey, wrote a letter to Governor Luìs de Unzaga[17][17] that François Savoie was traveling to New Orleans to request permission to go to Attakapas to receive medical treatment from his brother-in-law, Antoine Bordat, a physician. On 9 July 1776 Governor Unzanga[18][18] informed Cantrelle that he had granted François Savoie permission to settle at Attakapas. In the 4 May 1777 Attakapas census[19][19] is found: Family #86 Francois Sçavois age 46 Marie Barnabé wife age 29 François son age 9 Joseph age 6 Manetée daughter age 8 Marie daughter age 3 François was buried 3 December 1780[20][20] at age 50 years. _____ [1][1] White, Stephen A. Good Morning, Thanks for this information! I will put a note in the margin of the books that I have. Interestingly, in the past few days while doing research I have encountered at least 4 marriages where the mother's maiden name was not used. It is easy to fall into this line of thinking. :-) Thanks for keeping me straight. Greetings to all! My paternal gread-grandmother was Emma Smith, daughter of George Smith and Eva Taylor Smith. What sparse information we have on her has come from the internet, and the kind sharing of those many folks that have the Smith family in their own background. Emma had four, possibly five children for different fathers, and was listed in at least one census as a widow. Emma's first child was an Andrepont, and her younger sister married an Andrepont. There were twin girls surnamed Richard, and a son named Savoy. There is rumored to be a daughter that refused to claim her father's name. The children were mostly raised by her mother, although Emma herself seems to have spent most of her life living with her parents, or right next to them. Later in life she married a preacher named Jesse Stout, who is reported to have forbade her contact with her children. The last census information I have about her has her living among her parents and siblings and their broods, St. Landry parish. I suppose I am seeking anyone who might have any knowledge of Emma, or who may be able to relate stories from persons who may have known her. We would like to be able to piece together something of her personality and the life she led, if at all possible. Thanks to everyone for your time! Minnymel
Hi Margy and Cousins on the A-C List, I leave home tomorrow headed to England and France until August 16th. I will be thinking of all of you especially in the land of our Ancestors. I have a set of grandparents on my Mother's side of the family who were married in Paris in the 1600s at the church of St-Nicolas des Champs. The church is still there and is an active parish. We will visit the church and take photos. Of course the church was rebuilt a good many years ago but to go there knowing that it was in this place that some of our Ancestors married before going to Quebec is very exciting. After I send this message to the A-C list, I am offline until my return August 16th. Best wishes to all - I will have much information and photos to post when I return. Andy, The parents aren't shown on the marriage record for Jean. They are shown on the marriage record for Athanaise [shown as Athanase on Jean's record] When spelling variations don't work, use the year, i.e. I checked Hebert 1867 to find the record!!!
