    3. Hi Stanley and List, Yep, yep, never say never. :-) I always have to remind myself that most of the spelling was done phonetically, so it could appear many different ways. My problem is that I am not very good at guessing other spellings. Sigh. Thanks for everyone who helped. 1. [Acadian-Cajun] Carriere/Derbonne
    2. Gordon Bonnet
    3. I have a Carriere/Derbonne connection for which a lot of the pieces seem to be missing. Can anyone help? What I have is Onezime Carriere, b. 1828, son of Onezime Carriere (pere) and Eliza Sonnier. I can't seem to place Eliza Sonnier; some of the records I've found list her as Soigne, and I wonder if she wasn't from the Acadian Sonnier/Saulnier line? Onezime (fils) married Zeline Derbonne -- can't find a marriage record for them, and I don't have Zeline's parents' names. They had six children, and I don't have a birth or baptismal record for a single one. I have them as Onezime, Melisa, Anastasie, Pierre Onezime, Eurasie, and Joseph Adam Carriere. Can anyone fill in some of these blanks? I've searched census records without avail. Thanks for any help cheers, Gordon Bonnet Trumansburg NY

    1. [Acadian-Cajun] Digs at Beaubassin
    2. Lucie Consentino
    3. Shortly after CMA 2004, I was contacted by Bill Casey, M.P. who told me of the project he had helped push through Parliament and that Parks Canada would be conducting archeological digs at Beaubassin. I promised to get the word out and I did at the time. Going through links this morning I have found that the digs have been proceeding and that articles are now being published as items are recovered and recorded. I offer the following links to you to peruse. Many of us had ancestors who were living in the Beaubassin/Chignecto region prior to the deportation. Following the instructions of their priest, the Acadians burned their homes and buildings before the British could take their properties from them and went to Fort Beausejour for protection. It was not too very long before the fort fell to the British thanks to a french spy who helped the British. Some Acadians escaped to the north in places like Miramichi only to suffer from starvation where some died. Those who survived would finally be imprisoned by the British in what that fort now renamed Fort Cumberland - some would also be marched to prison in Halifax. I believe that in the long run archeological digs will prove very important in understanding how our ancestors lived. I think you will find the following links very interesting. On the first link maintained by Bill Casey's organization there are infrared photos at the bottom of the page that indicated where foundations of home might have been. There was enough proof to encourage Parliament to fund Parks Canada to purchase the land and to initiate the digs. http://www.billcasey.ca/Beaubassin%20Living%20History%20Page.html http://sackvilletribunepost.com/index.cfm?sid=47290 <http://sackvilletribunepost.com/index.cfm?sid=47290&sc=129> &sc=129 http://www.newswire.ca/en/releases/archive/July2007/19/c7816.html http://thechronicleherald.ca/NovaScotian/851460.html http://www.amherstdaily.com/index.cfm?sid=46153 <http://www.amherstdaily.com/index.cfm?sid=46153&sc=58> &sc=58 Lucie LeBlanc Consentino AFC RootsWeb Administrator Acadian-French-Canadian Mailing List <mailto:ACADIAN-FRENCH-CANADIAN-L-request@rootsweb.com> ACADIAN-FRENCH-CANADIAN-L-request@rootsweb.com Acadian & French-Canadian Ancestral Home <http://www.acadian-home.org/frames.html> www.acadian-home.org/frames.html
