Gordon & List, There were not just two Rosemond LeBlancs; I have no fewer than 13 born in Louisiana from 1789 to 1820. Must have been a popular name for boys! You have the facts correct as to marriages of the two you list. The parents of the second Rosemond, married to Emilie Elise Boudrot/Boudreaux, were Jacques Hippolyte Le Blanc & Marie Marguerite Gaudet. What else would you like to know? Hi... I have some conflicting information that I'm hoping someone can resolve. In my database, I have Rosemond LeBlanc, son of Joseph Ursin and Marie Rose (Landry) LeBlanc, born 22 May 1807 in Plattenville LA, marrying Clarisse Cleonise Aucoin, daughter of Jean Baptiste and Rosa Madeleine (Bourg) Aucoin. I show them with two daughters, Irma and Noemie, born 1837 and 1846, respectively. Another researcher has the same Rosemond LeBlanc, but shows him married to Melanie Elise Boudreaux, daughter of Jean Baptiste and Marie Rose (Benoit) Boudreaux. I initially thought that it might be a case of a first and second marriage, but the dates don't work; the Rosemond who married Clarisse Aucoin married her on 26 Dec. 1825 in Plattenville, and they were (if my information is correct) still having children in 1846; the Rosemond who married Melanie Boudreaux married her on 13 Feb. 1827 in Plattenville, and their children were born between 1828 and 1839. This leads me to believe that there were two Rosemond LeBlancs. Can anyone clarify? Thanks, Gordon
Congratulations! Yes indeed it must have been a very proud moment for you. Thanks for sharing. One is in the parish of St. James Catholic Church (SJA-1, 44), which does give her parents, the other in Ascension Catholic Church (ASC-1, 122), and gives only his parents. Both are found in Baton Rouge Diocese, Catholic Church Records, vol. 2, pp. 146, 149 & 150. Honore BRAUD, son of Alexi & Marie TRAHAN of Acadia, married on 18 Jan 1773 to Magdalena BRAUD, daughter of Jean Baptiste & Marie Rose LANDRY. Witnesses: Paul BRAUD; Michael BERTONVILLE. Recorded at Ascension Catholic Church, Donaldsonville, LA (ASC-1, 122). Honnoré BRO, son of Alexis & Marie TRHAM [sic], married on 18 Jan 1773 to Magdelaine BRAUD of LaFourche Parish (parents not given). Witnesses not given. Recorded at St. James Catholic Church, St. James, LA (SJA-1, 44). Any ideas why it would appear in both parishes on the same day?" The best answer was posited by Terry, and upon reflection I agree. Since the Ascension Church record is most complete, giving witnesses, as well as the names of both sets of parents, I believe the marriage actually took place there, probably the bride's parish. The groom may have belonged to St. James Parish, and the priest there noted his marriage, but was not aware of all the details, such as witnesses and bride's parents' names, but did have the date. Logical? The couple lived their lives in St. James Parish, where their children were baptized. According to Robert and Clarence Breaux, authors of Breau Genealogie 2004 Edition Magdelaine 's parents were: Jean Baptiste Bro/Marie Rose Landry They agree with your listed date of marriage to Honore Breaux , This Honore Breaux was the son of Alexis Breaux and nephew of Honore Joseph Breaux, the two (of many) Breauxs who were exiled in Port Tobacco, MD and went to Louisiana aboard the Guinea in Feb. 1768. The two brothers, Alexis and Honore (and first cousin Joseph) led the protests and petitions (against their forced settlement near Fort St. Luuis, Natchez Territory) that eventually led to the Spanish Governor O'Reilly allowing the Breauxs to move down river to the earlier established settlenents (St. James, St Gabriel, Manchac). Great coverage of these events in Quest for the Promised Land, by Brasseaux, Garcia and Voorhies and separate articles by Chandler and Riffel. Hi all, I have a couple of Michels in my line, perhaps you could tell me something about them. My first one is Eveline Michel, I don't know her date of birth. She was married to Joseph Valerien and they had a child named Louise Amanda Valerian born September 10,?1898 in Iberia. One of the sponsors were Ursin Michel. Any information would be great! Thank you. I am working on the acadian - cajun and other for my grandson's other grandfather. I am at www.johnhogg.us On the left of the page you can look at the charts section for Roland James Blanchard or just look at the names if you wish I still have a ways to go and at present am working on those who came down the Mississippi from the Illinois area in the 1760's Pertuis/Pertuit, Quebedeaux, Provost/Prevost. I have a lot more to add but can always use help and happy to share.
